My C++ 3DGS implementation has transitioned to the gsplat backend and is now licensed under Apache 2.0. - Supports MCMC densification by default. - Includes a fused bilateral grid implementation. - A basic viewer, contributed by the community, is available with more features in development. - Runs in headless mode. Exciting plans are underway for the project's evolution over the sumner. Check it out!

Gaussian Head Avatar: Ultra High-fidelity Head Avatar via Dynamic Gaussians paper page: Creating high-fidelity 3D head avatars has always been a research hotspot, but there remains a great challenge under lightweight sparse view setups. In this paper, we propose Gaussian Head Avatar represented by controllable 3D Gaussians for high-fidelity head avatar modeling. We optimize the neutral 3D Gaussians and a fully learned MLP-based deformation field to capture complex expressions. The two parts benefit each other, thereby our method can model fine-grained dynamic details while ensuring expression accuracy. Furthermore, we devise a well-designed geometry-guided initialization strategy based on implicit SDF and Deep Marching Tetrahedra for the stability and convergence of the training procedure. Experiments show our approach outperforms other state-of-the-art sparse-view methods, achieving ultra high-fidelity rendering quality at 2K resolution even under exaggerated expressions.

Gaussian splatting is so good at capturing context. For me, it has changed my approach to volumetric photography. For me with photogrammetry, it was very much either object-based, space based, or facade-based, always with the subject’s bounds being very clearly defined during capture But with splats, I can think more frustum-based, composing a scene with a foreground, background, and subject, and shooting it. It gives me back the freedom I had with traditional photography

The UV-parameterized Gaussian representation decouples the number of Gaussians from the number and resolution of input images, making it practical to train with many high resolution views. And the heads are not just static either: text-conditioned identity generation, plus blendshape-driven latent animation across identities. We've been building in the 3D Gaussian Splatting space for a while. The gap between "research demo" and "works on real people at scale" is closing fast.

DroneSplat: 3D Gaussian Splatting for Robust 3D Reconstruction from In-the-Wild Drone Imagery Abstract: Drones have become essential tools for reconstructing wild scenes due to their outstanding maneuverability. Recent advances in radiance field methods have achieved remarkable rendering quality, providing a new avenue for 3D reconstruction from drone imagery. However, dynamic distractors in wild environments challenge the static scene assumption in radiance fields, while limited view constraints hinder the accurate capture of underlying scene geometry. To address these challenges, we introduce DroneSplat, a novel framework designed for robust 3D reconstruction from in-the-wild drone imagery. Our method adaptively adjusts masking thresholds by integrating local-global segmentation heuristics with statistical approaches, enabling precise identification and elimination of dynamic distractors in static scenes. We enhance 3D Gaussian Splatting with multi-view stereo predictions and a voxel-guided optimization strategy, supporting high-quality rendering under limited view constraints. For comprehensive evaluation, we provide a drone-captured 3D reconstruction dataset encompassing both dynamic and static scenes. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DroneSplat outperforms both 3DGS and NeRF baselines in handling in-the-wild drone imagery.

First fully ML-framework-free 3D Gaussian Splatting implementation in LichtFeld Studio. I’ve completed the migration of the full training pipeline to a custom CUDA-based tensor library. No PyTorch, no LibTorch, no autograd. Every gradient is implemented by hand, either through CUDA kernels or minimal abstractions on top. This makes it the first full training setup for 3D Gaussian Splatting with zero dependencies on existing ML frameworks. It’s not just about independence, it's about control! We now manage every byte of GPU memory, which opens the door to tighter optimization and finer performance tuning. The framework footprint is minimal, without pulling in gigabytes of ML runtime code that was never designed for real-time or graphics-driven applications. A few modules, such as the metrics and 3DGUT interfaces, are still being ported, and some operations are temporarily naïve, so performance is not yet on par with master. But this refactor lays the groundwork for: - A fully self-contained binary - Fine-grained memory optimization - Easier experimentation without the weight of an ML stack We’re getting close.

This is one continuous space-time scene, reconstructed from a single clip shot on an iPhone 16. We combine feed-forward Gaussian generation, 3D tracking, and 4D Gaussian Splatting, aiming to deliver it as a compact 4D video file that runs on your phone. Still early R&D. The goal: make 4DGS something anyone can create and experience, not just researchers with a camera rig.
