QVAC SDK 0.14.0 is live. This release makes the on-device stack faster on mobile, ships the developer-agent path, and takes local text-to-speech to 31 languages. Main highlights: - OpenCode and OpenClaw. The first official OpenCode plugin, plus a maintained OpenClaw compatibility path, both built on managed mode and qvac serve. Point a coding agent at a local model with far less setup and far fewer surprises. - Brain-computer interface transcription, on the SDK. Take recorded neural signal data and decode it into text, fully on-device, no cloud. Stream it in chunks through a simple API. In 0.14 it runs GPU-accelerated on iOS. - Text to Speech in 31 languages with our Supertonic3 upgrade. VOICE AND SPEECH - Supertonic3 multilingual TTS, 5 languages to 31. - Chatterbox and Supertonic now run on the Android GPU, with lower memory use (especially on iOS), quantized s3gen Chatterbox support, and a fix for Chatterbox occasionally emitting random speech. - Whisper transcription now runs on the iOS GPU. Parakeet runs on the Android GPU, with steadier real-time streaming. VISION AND OCR - VLM multi-tile batching: high-resolution Pan and Scan images are encoded in one pass instead of tile by tile, for faster vision throughput. - OCR on ggml (EasyOCR and DocTR) reaches full speed parity with the onnx path, across Metal, OpenCL, and Vulkan. PLATFORM AND RELIABILITY - Dynamic compute backends on Linux: one build picks the right backend at runtime, and opens the door to ROCm and CUDA support without per-backend builds. - Thinking tokens are kept out of the model context, so reasoning no longer fills the KV cache. SDK 0.14.0 is now leaner and faster to start. Let’s build.

This is a big update! visionOS 2.4 Beta is now available and I’m genuinely excited! The public release hits in April, but here’s the rundown of what’s available in visionOS 2.4 Beta today: • Apple Intelligence is coming to Vision Pro! All those rumors that said the first model wouldn’t get it. Dead wrong. We’re getting Image Playground to whip up fun images, Genmoji for custom emojis, and my personal favorite, Writing Tools. This is just the start of Apple Intelligence on Vision Pro and I’m excited to see where it takes us. • Guest User feature! Hand your Vision Pro to someone, and your nearby iPhone or iPad pings with an 'Allow Guest User' option. You pick their apps from your device, kick off View Mirroring with AirPlay to see what they’re seeing, and guide them through the experience. It’s clean, easy, and something many of us have been asking for. • A new Spatial Gallery app! Apple’s curating a stunning lineup of spatial photos, videos, and panoramas from artists, filmmakers, and brands like Cirque du Soleil and Porsche. Can’t wait to dive into that. • A new Vision Pro app for iPhone! Browse and queue up apps or games to download, discover spatial content from Apple TV and Spatial Gallery, and grab handy tips—all from your iPhone. It’ll roll out with iOS 18.4 wherever Vision Pro’s sold. I think it’ll be super useful. visionOS 2.4 is a big step up and it’s another strong signal that we have a lot to look forward to with spatial computing from Apple. We are just getting started.

Build uncompromising high-performance, high-fidelity apps with React. What you see is not the Apple Messages app, nor is it meant to be 1:1. Rather it serves as an aspirational and real example of UI/UX that is possible. Every detail from the bubble animations to keyboard gestures to scroll view insets and safe areas to parallax timestamps required care and attention. Quality UIs come from caring hard. The little chat bubble tails that morph away when the next message animates in. Timestamps that scroll at a different rate than the bubbles. Peek gestures powered by UIKit that lift a chat bubble, tail and all, with a gentle haptic pulse. The subtle shadow of the text composer and responsively sliding down the keyboard in pixel-perfect concert. The composer shrinking its width to fit iPhone’s rounded bezel. The beautiful Liquid Glass refractions have the level of glassiness chosen by the user (new in iOS 27). Scroll view insets that adjust to fit the home bar and keyboard dynamically, creating a sense of depth as the chat bubbles are slightly visible as they scroll under the keyboard. Keeping the keyboard on screen if the prior screen already presented it. Sliding the keyboard and composer with the screen when the user drags to navigate back. I am excited to explore using the new iPhone Duo view controllers natively with React when the time comes. There is always room for innovation and improvement. This chat demo runs at 120 FPS on iOS 27 even on my phone that’s four versions old now. There are several approaches to high-performance lists. I explored a new Expo scroll view that uses the native gesture systems along with react-native’s VirtualView (codenamed “Fling” to reflect the speed of flinging a scroll view), which Meta’s React team designed to prioritize scroll momentum with React’s scheduler. There are tradeoffs with other scroll strategies for how the scroll views gracefully degrade, and they can be swapped out based on what’s best for your app’s use case. And, by virtue of using modern React, high-priority events like user gestures can preempt lower-priority ones like a network response. Let us dispel any myth that using React requires compromising on beautiful, smooth, user-friendly UI/UX that Uses the Platform. Let us dispel any myth frame-perfect UI coordination is not achievable. The Hermes thread and the UI thread can coordinate when needed, like for controlled text inputs. Let us dispel any myth that React Native’s performance is impacted by a bridge, let alone has a bridge. Bridgeless JSI and the Fabric renderer are here for apps that use the New Architecture. What about Android? The app runs and I’ll share a screenshot from my cloud agent’s emulator. With some attention to detail dedicated to Android I’m confident crafted UX is attainable. I’ve spent my tokens once and have a structural head start everywhere. One more thing! Most of this chat’s application code is written with , , , and other familiar elements. The styling is mostly CSS, including linear-gradient(), background-attachment: fixed, and semantic platform colors that adapt to dark mode. Not just appearance - CSS Animations and CSS Transitions run entirely natively. There are a handful of custom native components written in Swift and Kotlin, like the chat bubbles and a custom CAShapeLayer and UIBezierPath for the tails. Native coding is a first-class feature. The way to think about building beautiful apps this way is React and Native, not React vs. Native. Aspire high and raise your ambitions for what is possible!

I know your timeline is flooded now with word salads of "insane, HER, 10 features you missed, we're so back". Sit down. Chill. Take a deep breath like Mark does in the demo . Let's think step by step: - Technique-wise, OpenAI has figured out a way to map audio to audio directly as first-class modality, and stream videos to a transformer in real-time. These require some new research on tokenization and architecture, but overall it's a data and system optimization problem (as most things are). High-quality data can come from at least 2 sources: 1) Naturally occurring dialogues on YouTube, podcasts, TV series, movies, etc. Whisper can be trained to identify speaker turns in a dialogue or separate overlapping speeches for automated annotation. 2) Synthetic data. Run the slow 3-stage pipeline using the most powerful models: speech1->text1 (ASR), text1->text2 (LLM), text2->speech2 (TTS). The middle LLM can decide when to stop and also simulate how to resume from interruption. It could output additional "thought traces" that are not verbalized to help generate better reply. Then GPT-4o distills directly from speech1->speech2, with optional auxiliary loss functions based on the 3-stage data. After distillation, these behaviors are now baked into the model without emitting intermediate texts. On the system side: the latency would not meet real-time threshold if every video frame is decompressed into an RGB image. OpenAI has likely developed their own neural-first, streaming video codec to transmit the motion deltas as tokens. The communication protocol and NN inference must be co-optimized. For example, there could be a small and energy-efficient NN running on the edge device that decides to transmit more tokens if the video is interesting, and fewer otherwise. - I didn't expect GPT-4o to be closer to GPT-5, the rumored "Arrakis" model that takes multimodal in and out. In fact, it's likely an early checkpoint of GPT-5 that hasn't finished training yet. The branding betrays a certain insecurity. Ahead of Google I/O, OpenAI would rather beat our mental projection of GPT-4.5 than disappoint by missing the sky-high expectation for GPT-5. A smart move to buy more time. - Notably, the assistant is much more lively and even a bit flirty. GPT-4o is trying (perhaps a bit too hard) to sound like HER. OpenAI is eating Character AI's lunch, with almost 100% overlap in form factor and huge distribution channels. It's a pivot towards more emotional AI with strong personality, which OpenAI seemed to actively suppress in the past. - Whoever wins Apple first wins big time. I see 3 levels of integration with iOS: 1) Ditch Siri. OpenAI distills a smaller-tier, purely on-device GPT-4o for iOS, with optional paid upgrade to use the cloud. 2) Native features to stream the camera or screen into the model. Chip-level support for neural audio/video codec. 3) Integrate with iOS system-level action API and smart home APIs. No one uses Siri Shortcuts, but it's time to resurrect. This could become the AI agent product with a billion users from the get-go. The FSD for smartphones with a Tesla-scale data flywheel.
