And then there are people who say Elon has achieved nothing , he rides on the coat tails of people who work for him. He knows in depth details of ALL of his products , from battery chemistries to chamber pressures .... he is like no other CEO on earth.
That clip has nothing to do with what happened, but there was a whole “go/no go” checklist with one engine out, on whether it was SAFE to proceed with the mission. There’s go/no go checklists for various systems and subsystems on rocket launches everywhere. Could Elon override a checklist outcome? Probably. Maybe? But I’d say he trusts his engineers enough to go with their suggestions.
He anticipated that happening, why there is so many engines.
More than one engine had issues. Two on booster, and one on Ship, but vehicles were designed to just burn longer to compensate. Shit happens, and it happened on Apollo 13 also where Engine 5 on the second stage went offline, but Mission Control just burned other 4 engines longer.
Calling go with one engine out and still putting 26 V3s on orbit is wild. First revenue flight actually delivering the sats matters more than the splashdown drama.

Great call. Delivered the payload. Commercial win. Achieved proof of concept on multiple fronts. Strengthens future stock potential and shareholder update, whist providing excellent data to recalibrate and refine processes. Kudos Elon 👏💜

First orbital + first revenue flight is the cadence print that compounds. V3 only rides Starship — that's capacity unlocking on the pad, not a slide. Cash line I'm still marking: Connectivity Q2'26 $4.29B rev / $1.66B op income (SpaceX IR).
One engine fails and they still go. Execution under pressure is how experiments turn into revenue.
2 questions immediately come to mind.. What's the minimum number of engines that will get her into orbit? And could the stress on the remaining engines cause them to damage the payload? SEND IT!
