YOU WILL OWN NOTHING Sony just killed physical PlayStation discs. Starting 2028, every game you buy is just a license they can erase anytime. - Sony is deleting 551 paid movies from accounts on Sept 1, no refunds - Disc-drive PS5 owners just got a $700 paperweight - No more trading, reselling, or lending games to friends - They tried this with Discovery in 2023 too. Nothing changed They didn't kill discs. They killed ownership.

Max perfectly explains why Sony going full digital with Playstation really sucks for the consumer, regardless if you mainly indulge in Digital or Physical.

72 HOURS OF SILENCE. SONY IS WAITING FOR YOU TO FORGET. on July 1, Sony announced the end of physical PlayStation games - no more discs from January 2028. Then it vanished. Not panic - protocol. - not a single post on any PlayStation account since the announcement, even the routine PS Plus update got skipped - the announcement itself now wears a Community Note reminding everyone that digital means a revocable license, not ownership - second blackout this year: after closing Bluepoint, Sony hid for 72+ hours until the anger burned out. Same playbook, bigger fire - the timing was surgical: July 1 is day one of a new fiscal quarter - last quarter's numbers were locked before the outrage could touch them they planned this years ago. the silence means they just don’t care about you. their bet: you'll forget by 2028. will you?

Like a majority of its audience, I don't care if PlayStation supports physical media. Rather, the question is: How will Sony improve and solidify its digital presence? From ownership to accessibility to security, fixing PSN is the whole ballgame. Here, Sony simply -must- act.

This is Sony 12 years ago mocking Xbox for DRM because they’re ‚shifting their story‘. According to their own words NOT using DRM ‚is fair and in tune with consumer desires‘. Now they implemented it without even informing their customers. Gamers, vote with your wallet! 😠
