But they are not welcome in our public places and shared institutions. And given their explicit repudiation of Christianity they certainly do not belong in our churches and cathedrals. You may not agree with me, but you will always know where you stand with me. Today in Billericay, a heckler tried to shout me down as I spoke about the normalisation of hatred towards Jews. I did not back down, because it needs to be said. British Jews are being targeted and too many people are pretending this is the same experience of other minorities. This lady implied Muslims are being similarly targeted. This is simply not true. Let's be honest about what is happening. Certain groups (in particular but not solely Islamic Extremists) are creating a climate of fear and intimidation that is normalising Jew hatred. I will never stand for that. Governments have spent too long hand-wringing, making excuses and hoping it would go away. It is time to call this what it is: a national emergency in our attitude, our urgency and our response. I will always engage with people who disagree with me. That is politics. But there is a difference between argument and intimidation. Shouting does not make a bad case good. It's done to silence others. And it certainly does not change the truth. The truth is that British Jews have been made to feel less safe in their own country. Our country. They are being singled out, threatened and harassed in ways that should shame everyone in public life. If we do not stand up now and stop this rise in antisemitism, then why bother saying "Never Again" at Holocaust Memorial Day? Because this is how it starts. I am not prepared to play along with the pretence that this is normal, or manageable, or just another example of tension between groups. It really is not. As a Pakistani Muslim, I can say this with hand on my heart, if anyone did this to my kids in a school where they’re supposed to learn maths, science, and other academic subjects (not religious studies), I wouldn’t just be angry I’d campaign to make sure it never happens again. We have Muslims trying to force headscarves and religious practices onto kids at school, and as someone who attended an Islamic religious school, I can say with conviction that I don’t want these lunatics teaching my kids about religion. I want my kids to just be kids. If anything, I believe in being a role model for my children, not letting some brainwashed Islamist fill their heads with religious doctrine. I’m also ashamed of the non-Muslim parents proudly putting headscarves on their children as if they’ve achieved something. Let’s be clear, the UK is and always will be a Christian country. I’d love to see how many Muslims would be okay with their kids being forced to wear a nun's dress and a Christian cross or being taught about Christianity. Let’s not pretend, if Muslim kids were taken to a church or a Hindu temple and forced to pray, there would be uproar. So why is it acceptable to randomly start teaching kids about Islam and forcing them to pray? Religion and God are personal matters. If you feel the need to show off your faith to others, maybe take a hard look in the mirror and figure out whether you’re praying for God or for public sympathy. There are already enough problems in this country without worrying about our kids being brainwashed without our permission. The whole education system is doomed when you have criminals going into schools to teach kids how to be good human beings.
