Can you restore a BlackStone sent to the wasteland...? Some solid tips here on "how-to." You can absolutely restore a rusty curb-find Blackstone griddle from the wasteland and make it last for years with proper care. Start by firing up all the burners on high for about 20 minutes to loosen old seasoning and surface rust, then let it cool slightly. Once it’s manageable, scrape off loose debris with a metal spatula or scraper. Apply a thin layer of cooking oil and scrub vigorously in circular motions using a pumice grill stone (the most effective tool), steel wool, or medium-grit sandpaper. For stubborn rust spots, a vinegar-and-water mix can sit for a few minutes to help dissolve it before wiping everything clean. Rinse lightly with water if needed, but dry the surface completely—using low heat helps evaporate any moisture to prevent new rust. The key to longevity is re-seasoning: spread a very thin layer of high-smoke-point oil like flaxseed (ideal), avocado, or canola across the entire cooktop with a paper towel. Heat it on medium-high until it smokes, usually 15–20 minutes, then repeat this process 3–5 times to build a dark, durable non-stick patina. Over time, food will stick less and the surface will perform like new. To keep it lasting “forever,” always clean it while still hot after every use by scraping residue, wiping with warm water, and applying a light oil coat. Never use soap unless doing a deep clean, avoid leaving it exposed to rain, and store it covered or indoors. Re-season monthly or as needed, and it will reward you with many great cooks ahead. Grab a grill stone, scraper, and some oil, and you’ll have it back in action in just a couple of hours plus seasoning time. 🔥

Glimpse into the world of an oil change done with ease by a pro. Ever wonder what a flawless, textbook oil change looks like when performed by a pro? We broke it down step-by-step to show you the precision, care, and cleanliness required for a job done right. Step 1: The Drain & Prep First things first: getting that old oil out. The mechanic lifts the vehicle, locates the drain plug, and carefully loosens it. Bringing over the oil catchment system ensures no mess. The plug is removed, allowing the dirty oil to drain out completely. Step 2: The Filter Swap (The Clean Way) Changing the oil filter can get messy—but not on our watch. The mechanic uses a clever, moldable green deflector tool to create a funnel underneath the filter. As the old filter is unscrewed, the excess oil catches and flows perfectly into the basin without touching the car's frame. Once drained, the old filter is removed, the mating surface is wiped clean with a fresh rag, and a brand-new blue filter is prepped and securely hand-tightened into place. Step 3: Resealing & Torquing Before anything else, the drain plug needs to go back in. The mechanic cleans the area, threads the plug by hand, and then uses a precision torque wrench to tighten the lugs on the wheels to exact factory specifications. No overtightening, no stripped threads—just perfect calibration. Step 4: The Fresh Refill With the underside completely sealed, the car is lowered. A clean funnel is placed into the engine bay, and fresh, golden oil is metered out and poured in. The oil cap is twisted back on securely. Step 5: Verification A quick turn of the ignition to let the new oil circulate through the engine, followed by a dipstick check. The mechanic pulls the dipstick, wipes it clean, inserts it again, and reads the level to confirm it is exactly where it needs to be. Step 6: The Showroom Finish We don’t just stop at the mechanical work. To wrap it all up perfectly, the engine bay gets a thorough pressure wash and detail, blowing away any dust or road grime. The hood is shut, and this Honda is officially ready to hit the road for thousands of trouble-free miles. Efficiency. Precision. Cleanliness. That’s how a job is done perfectly.

Sun-gazing to improve eyesight and eye-health? OK. Let’s break it down. See this video attached? It has more than 1 million views and close to 50K likes. In the video, a guy, who is the co-founder of The Satvic Movement, is trying to "naturalize" the Indians by claiming that everything scientific is “unnatural and synthetic.” He goes on to claim that he got rid of his “glasses” by looking at the Sun, a process known as sun-gazing – during dawn and at dusk which improved his eye health. He gives no scientific explanation for this, apart from a brightly lit well-edited video. Why do people require glasses? These are commonly due to disorders that affect the eye lens – to correct blurry vision that affects distance (nearsightedness – also called myopia), up close (farsightedness – also called hypermetropia), or both, along with difficulty in distinguishing certain shapes (astigmatism). Glasses work to correct your vision and are designed to alter the direction of light rays so that they shine correctly on your retina (the rearmost part of the eye where the light falls to create vision through multi-complex coordination of nerves), allowing you to see properly. These groups of disorders that affect the lens are called refractive errors and wearing spectacles are the easiest and most efficient and safest way to correcting vision in such affected people. Don’t want to wear glasses? There are other effective ways to go about it – such as wearing contacts or opting for a simple, minimally-invasive surgery such as laser-based. Here is a simple explainer on these: Now Sun-Gazing. Sun-gazing is a meditative practice that involves looking at and focusing on the sun. It is usually promoted by unscientific groups, who have close attachments to pseudoscientific practices such as Ayurveda or Yoga and are deeply involved in religion & spiritualism, science-denialism, chemophobia (only modern inventions are chemicals, rest are all natural), irrationality and fearmongering against realistic-healthcare options. The Satvic Movement is EXACTLY that. There is no scientific research to support the practice of sun-gazing. There is no empirical evidence to support that sun-gazing improves eye health or can help you correct eye-lens related disorders. While several bloggers and enthusiasts write about the benefits of sun gazing, no studies or reputable authorities mention or endorse the practice. However, there is evidence that the practice can be extremely HARMFUL. A 1968 paper in the British Medical Journal described people who damaged their retinas - the light-sensitive layers of nerve tissue at the back of the eye that receive images and sends them as electric signals through the optic nerve to the brain – after prolonged periods of sun-gazing. A 1973 paper reported severe damaged to inner layers of the eye after people sun-gazed or focused their vision towards the sun for intermittent/prolonged periods – some where under the influence of LSD recreational drugs. A 1985 report showed that gazing at the sun resulted in fluid leakage and blood vessel damage to the light sensitive structures inside the eye. A 2013 report showed that a woman, after sun-gazing developed persistent vision damage up to one year which required aggressive care. A recent 2022 paper describes in detail the adverse/negative effects seen with sun-gazing and effects of exposure to solar radiation on the eyes. Short-term exposure has been shown to cause photokeratitis and photo retinitis where the cornea of the eye gets damaged. In contrast, long-term exposure has been shown to cause cataracts, pterygium and cancers of the cornea and conjunctiva, and cancers of the eyelids. The evidence supporting these claims is quite compelling. Sun-gazing DOES NOT help you get freedom from your glasses. It will harm you more. It is a primal and primitive practice promoted by loonies who are health-illiterate and dangerous to the public health at large. Do not take health care advice from such people or groups of people. Discuss your healthcare options with your doctor for better understanding and effective outcomes. Stay away from “Movements” that detach you away from reality and leave you without the capacity for rational and logical thinking.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos attempted to trip up Secretary of State Marco Rubio by asking the same question about Venezuela three different times. “What is the legal authority for the United States to be running Venezuela?” And three times, Rubio shut him down. RUBIO: “I explained to you what our goals are and how we’re going to use the leverage to make it happen.” “As far as our legal authority on the quarantine, simple. We have court orders. These are sanctioned boats, and we get orders from courts to go after and seize these sanctions. Is a court not a legal authority?” STEPHANOPOULOS: “Is the United States running Venezuela right now?” RUBIO: “Well, I’ve explained once again, I’ll do it one more time.” “What we are running is the direction this is going to move moving forward, and that is we have leverage.” “This leverage we are using and we intend to use. We started using already. You can see where they are running out of storage capacity. In a few weeks, they’re going to have to start pumping oil, unless they make changes.” “That leverage that we have with the armada of boats that are currently positioned, allow us to seize any sanctioned boats coming into or out of Venezuela loaded with oil or on its way in to pick up oil.” “We can pick and choose which ones we go after. We have court orders for each one.” “That will continue to be in place until the people who have control over the levers of power in that country make changes that are not just in the interest of the people of Venezuela but are in the interest of the United States and the things that we care about.” “The legal authority is the court orders that we have.”

CRUDE SHORTAGE WHIPLASH: WHY OIL PRICES WILL SPIKE AFTER THE BACKLOG CLEARS IN DAYS Troy Eckard of Enterprises Oil & Gas Investing has just revealed why the headlines about record crude oil moving through the Strait of Hormuz are misleading at best. What looks like a sudden flood of supply is actually the release of oil that has been loaded and waiting for nearly four months. This temporary surge is masking a much deeper supply problem that the world has been papering over with strategic reserves. Once the backlog is gone, the real supply picture will come into focus fast. THE HORMUZ BACKLOG REALITY ➡️ The recent movement of 19.1 million barrels per day is not new oil from opened wells or increased production. ➡️ It is not coming from storage tanks sitting at the ports ready to go. ➡️ Every single barrel was loaded onto tankers before the strait closed and has been stuck waiting for safe passage. ➡️ The main body of the strait is still not open and remains full of mines. ➡️ Only a narrow pathway is being used to let these long-delayed vessels through. THE SCALE OF WHAT JUST MOVED ➡️ When the strait closed, estimates show 110 to 120 million barrels of oil were trapped on vessels behind the gate. ➡️ That amount equals just one day of total global consumption at 104 million barrels per day. ➡️ At the pace seen recently, that entire backlog will clear in roughly five to six days. ➡️ After those days pass, there will be no equivalent volume of new oil taking its place. THE FOUR-MONTH SUPPLY HOLE ➡️ The closure created a massive 1.2 to 1.5 billion barrel deficit over almost four months. ➡️ The world responded by draining strategic reserves, pipelines, and every available storage to prevent prices from reaching 150 or 200 dollars. ➡️ That emergency action suppressed prices and created the current calm at around 70 dollars and fifty cents. ➡️ But those reserves cannot be drained indefinitely. THE PRICE ILLUSION ➡️ Oil trading near 70 dollars today exists because traders are dumping positions on the back of this one-time inventory release. ➡️ The media is calling it a solution and record progress through the strait. ➡️ In truth, production has not ramped up and new infrastructure is still months away from delivering. ➡️ This is a pretend moment of adequate supply that will not last. THE COMING WHIPLASH ➡️ In five to eight days the extra 100 million barrels of backlog oil will be absorbed into the global supply chain. ➡️ Physical buyers needing real barrels for customers will then enter the market in force. ➡️ A daily shortfall of 8 to 12 million barrels could become clear within three to four weeks. ➡️ The shift from trader covering losses to genuine physical demand will create a sharp reversal. THE BOTTOM LINE The recent drop in oil prices is riding on the final escape of oil that was already in the system long before the recent disruptions. That temporary relief is ending fast, and the underlying four-month supply hole remains unfilled. The market is about to discover that celebrating this surge was premature. This is the sound of the real supply picture reasserting itself. #LongRead #HomeCooking #GrowYourOwnFood #atmarnirbharbharat Why are we being sold the strange idea that a modern India doesn’t need kitchens, and that we should be like Singapore, where food is outsourced, and homes are just sleeping pods? What a terrible loss that would be! A kitchen is where health begins, where families gather, where food is not just fuel but memory, love, and connection. There is something deeply satisfying about the sound of a knife slicing through a crisp, fresh vegetable just plucked from the garden. The gentle crackle of mustard seeds in hot oil, the soft gurgle of daal simmering on the stove, the aroma of curry leaves and a pinch of hing blooming in pure desi ghee, these are the small, everyday miracles of a home-cooked meal. In a world rushing toward convenience, where kitchens are shrinking and takeout boxes pile up, I find myself increasingly drawn to the quiet, grounded rhythm of growing my own food, cooking, and eating at home. It is a return to something ancient, something real. Having grown up in Goa, I always loved the taste of home grown fruits and vegetables. Even when I lived in a tiny flat in Mumbai as a single working woman, I had planted tomatoes, curry leaves and green chillies in pots in the balcony. Growing your own vegetables for personal use doesn’t need land, all it needs is dedication and love for green things! My stay at Vaidyagrama last November changed my eating pattern for the better. The simplicity of their meals, their careful attention to ingredients, the way food was treated as medicine as per Ayurveda guidelines, all made sense in a way I had never considered before. So, we changed a few things in our kitchen. We already grew our own vegetables, but now the focus is on cooking small quantities, just enough for one meal. So on most days, our meals begin not in the fridge, but in the soil. A handful of spinach leaves, some tender gourds hanging off the vine, a few okras still dewy from the morning mist, firm, juicy red tomatoes freshly plucked just enough for today’s meal. I often do the plucking myself and I cannot describe the quiet thrill of it, this connection to the earth, this knowledge that what we eat was grown with in our own soil, without a drop of chemicals! Over the years, I have grown different kinds of fruits and vegetables in my garden, at times even achieving that Nirvana state when only the grains, cereals, condiments and oil is bought, and all vegetables and fruits are home-grown. I realise that I am extremely privileged to be able to have this ability, but even if you have buy the vegetables, make home cooking a part of your routine. Hire a cook if you have to, but cooking at home ensures better health for everyone in the family, because you can control what goes into your stomach. Cooking at home is a ritual of care. I know exactly what oil we use, how much salt we add, how little sugar we consume. I have swapped refined vegetable oil for cold-pressed coconut oil and mustard oil. I use Saindhav Namak and rock salt instead of iodised salt. Maida and white sugar are almost entirely gone from the table. We eat by 7:30 pm whenever we can. If I must eat out while traveling, I follow a simple rule. I start with a katori of daal or sambar, eat lightly in the evening if lunch was heavy and have just soup or fruits, Small, mindful shifts that have changed everything. And the results? More energy, better digestion, deeper sleep. I feel lighter, clearer, more in tune with my body. This is no magic, no extreme diet, no expensive supplements. Just the simple power of eating what our grandmothers ate, at the time they ate, cooked the way they cooked. - Shefali Vaidya

Summer's here—time to revive that crusty grill and flat-top for fresh burgers and smash burgers. The lemon juice + charcoal hack works surprisingly well as a cheap, natural duo for rust, carbonized grease, and gunk, courtesy of Jack Mancuso. Lemon juice delivers citric acid (pH ~2-3), a weak organic acid that excels at chelation and dissolution. It binds to metal ions in rust (iron oxides), loosening flaky Fe₂O₃ by forming soluble citrate complexes—essentially "dissolving" surface oxidation chemically. On grease and polymerized fats (baked-on carbon from proteins/sugars), the acid helps break ester bonds and emulsifies residues, making them easier to lift. Heat from a warm grill accelerates this reaction, and lemon's natural surfactants add a bit of degreasing power. Charcoal (or briquettes) brings mechanical abrasion. Its porous, gritty texture acts like a mild scrubber—harder than soft pads but gentler than steel wool on seasoned surfaces. You crush or use chunks in a cloth/bag, then scrub: the physical action shears off the acid-loosened rust and carbon without deep scratching. Some swear by activated charcoal for extra porosity, but plain grill charcoal suffices. Together: chemistry (acid softens bonds) + physics (grit scrapes it away) = shiny results in minutes, no harsh chemicals. Wipe, rinse, re-oil/season to protect. Note: heavy acid use can strip seasoning on cast iron or carbon steel flat-tops, so follow with oil. Vinegar (acetic acid) is a similar alternative, sometimes stronger. Pro tip: Warm surface + halved lemon dipped in salt/charcoal dust = next-level scrub. Grill's ready for summer glory!

Maduro begs OPEC for help as Trump ramps up the pressure, expert weighs in | Emma Bussey, Fox News Venezuelan leader's plea for help follows Trump's order to close Venezuelan airspace President Maduro’s appeal to oil-rich nations Sunday laid bare just how isolated he has become, a Latin American oil expert says, before describing Venezuela as "broke" and drowning in $150 billion of debt. The Venezuelan dictator's plea came in a letter in which he appealed to OPEC for support, claiming that U.S. "direct aggression" was undermining Venezuela’s energy sector and threatening global oil stability. In a letter to OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais and published by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, Maduro wrote, "I hope to count on your best efforts to help stop this aggression, which is growing stronger and seriously threatens the balance of the international energy market, both for producing and consuming countries." "OPEC is unlikely to get involved," Francisco J. Monaldi, Latin American Energy Policy Director, told Fox News Digital. "Saudi Arabia is the key player, and they will not want to confront the Trump Administration. But more importantly, they never get involved in this kind of conflict," he added. In his plea, Maduro argued that U.S. actions were designed to "destabilize" Venezuela and urged oil-producing nations to show solidarity. The U.S. imposed sanctions on Venezuela targeting government officials, state-run industries like oil and mining, and financial transactions in response to concerns over corruption, trafficking and human-rights abuses. His request followed President Trump’s order to close U.S. airspace over Venezuela, a move that tightened Washington’s pressure campaign and further restricted the regime’s ability to carry out international business. Yet Monaldi stressed that Maduro knows his appeal was only symbolic and had "framed" the situation to suit his own narrative over oil. "Maduro knows perfectly well that he is not going to get the reaction that he would want, but is framing the conflict as a conflict about oil," he argued. "Venezuela could once again become a major oil producer and produce about 4 million barrels a day in less than a decade, significantly quadrupling their current output. "The country could increase production if the oil sector is opened fully to private foreign investment, and that requires regime change. Four million barrels of oil per day will be the equivalent of about $90 billion per year in revenues, which is similar to what Venezuela received in the best of times. The income could allow Venezuela to pay the debt back and recover swiftly, micro, economically, although it will take years to get to that figure." "Now Venezuela is a country that is broke and has $150 billion of debt," he said. Tensions escalated further this week after a call between President Trump and Maduro, in which Trump said the Venezuelan leader should step down and leave the country, a direct push toward political transition. "A regime change is something that the U.S., if they can achieve it, would consider a positive outcome," Monaldi said. But he emphasized that Washington’s goals extend beyond energy. Venezuela, he said, has endured years of mismanagement and instability, making it not necessarily a safe bet. The broader U.S. priority, he added, is maintaining the Western Hemisphere. "The U.S. has priorities to preserve the Western Hemisphere as a region in which geopolitical rivals are not strong," Monaldi said. "The U.S. wants to reduce crime and drug trafficking in the region and the negative effects that Venezuela has had, you know, that have impacted the rest of the Latin American region," he added.
