HiOS 16 is insanely well-optimised for low-end chipsets. Look at how smooth it is on a device with Dimensity 7400 & UFS 2.2. Notice how the glass & blur UI effects are also retained & the parallel animations are well-implemented. (Funny thing is, other brands cut these exact same effects & animations on lower-end chipsets in the name of smoothness)

You can now save Editable Images to assets 🥳 Unfortunately the latest changes also involve a permission check that only allows you to turn your own assets into Editable Images ☹️. Lets hope an exception gets added for Plugin / Studio use so that people can apply adjustments to images that are publicly available Still a really good feature, I will be releasing this plugin as soon as Editable Images and the CreateAssetAsync function are out of beta!

This was (and in many ways still is) a game with the most badass soundtrack and effects ever. Oh, and if you ever wanted to know how many weapons you can attach to a ship, Xenon II will happily show you. Megablast... what a fitting title, both in terms of music and firepower!

The interesting part is the price. Quick rendering math lesson (common trap): FoV in Unreal Engine isn't interpolated correctly when blending between two cameras The current code does: FoV = lerp(FoVA, FoVB, Weight) however, that's not how you interpolate FoV! To be "perceptually" linear and also correct under aspect ratio scaling, FoV needs to be lerped in tangent space: FoV = atan(lerp(tan(FoVA*0.5), tan(FoVB*0.5), Weight)) * 2 First video showcasing the problem. Blending between a 32:9 camera with 98.21° FoV and a 16:9 camera with 60° FoV. Viewport is 32:9. Due to FoV scaling being Hor+ by default in UE, at 32:9 they should look identical. But during blends, they don't (the FoV isn't stable)! The relationship between FoV and aspect ratio isn’t linear, because FoV is angular In practice, it also means camera interps aren't as smooth as they could be, second video shows that. PR to fix the problem: hopefully it gets merged!

Lot of work done on deployment system. So how is this going to work (since there are few changes compared to the original plan, but I believe it's a massive improvement). Depending on the number of your active bays, you can deploy multiple ships to different places, travel time depends on destination, type of ship, and so on. As the ship is traveling, you can go back to managing base, crafting, research, and handling events, or you can simply speed up time (more about that soon, but nothing original). When the ship arrives at the place where you can deploy it for the mission, that happens instantly. So you can wait for the ideal day and weather if you wish. At any time, ships can be recalled. #Precursor #pixelart #gamedev #indiegame
