PK's are not so exciting. I'd rather see each side reduced by two or three players in extra time to open up the playing field. Would also format as sudden death rather than playing the entire OT period. Kicks are a bummer.

To me the extra time is do random. The clock should stop automatically every time the ball isn't in play or there should be an extra time clock that we can see beside the game clock. The penalty shootout let's lesser teams win and penalty kicks in general ruin games.

A pretty reasonable analysis. You could toss a coin to determine who wins or even the golden goal idea which when it was tried wasn’t that popular. The penalty shoot out is tense & it’s often the big names who miss. A 1-0 win from a penalty in a tight game is worst of all.

My only contention w/ penalty kicks is it’s the equivalent of deciding an NBA game with free throws. The NASL’s approach to them 50 yrs ago does whats great about penalties while keeping skill as a determining factor on both ends. Rather than a series of coin flips for the keeper

PKs are too easy. Need to use the old MLS shootout format where player advances the ball in a one on one battle vs goalkeeper, that's way better than PKs
