Canadian man undergoes "tooth in eye" surgery to restore his sight, the first of its kind in Canada. The procedure uses a tooth of the patient to be used as a structure for an artificial cornea. Before the tooth can be put in the eye, it is placed in the cheek, following it being shaved into a rectangle. A hole is drilled in the tooth and a lens is placed inside. The tooth is then implanted in the cheek for three months. "[The tooth] doesn’t have any connective tissue that I can actually pass a suture through to connect it to the eyeball. So the point of implanting it for three months is for it to gain the layer of supporting tissue," said Dr. Greg Moloney. Patient Brent Chapman has already had the first surgery and will be going onto phase 2 when it's time to remove the tooth from the cheek. The second surgery will require doctors to remove Chapman's iris and lens, before sewing the tooth into his eye. If successful, Chapman will be able to see through the small hole.

I’m operating at Redbud Surgery Center this morning and wanted to talk about aesthetic flat closure. What it is, why it matters, and why we’re fighting to protect it. Today I revised a patient who previously had mastectomies where the incisions were simply closed. She wanted a smooth, flat chest contour, something she could wear a prosthetic with and feel confident wearing a fitted shirt without lumps or irregularities, That requires time, skill, and reconstruction beyond just closing the patient’s skin. For her reconstruction today, we spent over an hour carefully operating. We removed, moved, and reshaped the skin and fat of her chest, and we gently reshaped the sides of her chest to create as smooth a contour as possible. Sometimes this involves liposuction, but today that wasn’t needed. In this case I used the adjacent tissue transfer code This is real reconstructive surgery and it deserves real coverage. This is why chest wall reconstruction for aesthetic flat closure is included in the proposed WHCRA modernization, and why we’re working to refine the language to protect coverage of this procedure. Patients deserve access to all forms of reconstruction — including flat closure — and we’re committed to working with all stakeholders to make sure the law reflects that. More to come.

Having faith and trusting in God/Universe or Higher Power, however you wish to see it, but for me Ill just say God in this case; involves a deep sense of belief and reliance on His guidance and wisdom. It means placing your full confidence in His plans, even when the path ahead is unclear, read that again. Trusting God often leads to a sense of inner peace, assurance, and strength during challenging times. On my way to Giga Berlin, I stopped at the VW “Transparent Factory” which served as a car factory and is now an exhibition space in Dresden, Germany. This facility was designed by architect Gunter Henn of the Henn GmbH firm and it originally opened in 2002 and produced the Volkswagen Phaeton until 2016. In 2017, it produced the electric version of the Golf. Recently, the ID.3 was the last car produced in this factory from January 2021 until the factory's closure in December 2025. This is open to the public, they provide some tours and it showcases some of the manufacturing processes, prototypes, battery and undercarriage mockups and even serves as a delivery center for customers. For me, it is a great way to get ready to view Giga Berlin tomorrow and serves as a reference point for the processes, technology, manufacturing techniques and factory design used by Tesla at Giga Texas, Giga Berlin and their other factories in China and the US. 🙏My dear friends, it is still cold, but the sun is shining. I hope it will stay that way. I don’t want to see rain for a very long time. It is devastating to know so many people are suffering so terribly from the cold. The rain adds to their misery. These poor people in tiny plastic tents aren’t being sheltered from the cold or the rain. Their tents and the camps are soaked through. All their belongings are wet. Even if you have the luxury of a mattress (yes! In the tent camps, a mattress is a luxury!), it is almost certainly bound to be soaking wet. So this is why I wish for no rain. I used to love it, but now I can’t wait for it to move away from us and stay away. The night was full of fear again; it is nothing but terror and violence at night. We are uncertain if we will see the day every single night. Sleeping is so hard, dear friends. It is so hard to fall asleep with this level of anxiety and the loud violence and threat of gunfire and bombing. It is also hard to go through daily life when you are tired. When everyone is tired. Today I burned my hand at the kitchen. I was the first one to have such an accident. It was bound to happen, as we are all exhausted: our visitors holding out their pots, containers and cans, and our team scooping up meals. Due to the chaos and the fatigue, I got piping hot sauce accidentally spilled over my right hand. We treated the wound with an ointment immediately, so the pain is bearable. It did make me realize how something like this could happen, but worse. Some day, someone on our staff might be exhausted and trip while carrying one of those heavy pans and be covered in boiling hot water. I think the fatigue also makes me worry more easily. Every night I pray it will be a calm night. We served a stew with peas, and yellow rice today. We are very glad we can still help so many people in our neighbourhood and refugees in shelters.
