Special missions envoy for President Trump Richard Grenell is a confirmed speaker for CPAC in DC 2025. Grenell previously served as U.S. Ambassador to Germany and special presidential envoy for Serbia and Kosovo peace negotiations in President Trump’s first term. @SwedishPM Sweden remains firmly committed to Ukraine, but the real question is whether Europe as a whole is willing to back "peace through strength" without relying on the U.S. With shifting global priorities, Europe may soon have to take full responsibility for its own security.

It is important that everyone understands – Russia does not seek real peace today and is dragging out the war. Following the leaders' meeting today, there is a strong reaffirmation that sanctions against Russia must not be lifted as long as the aggression continues. And we will continue working on security guarantees for Ukraine. I thank France and the United Kingdom for their leadership in the coalition of the willing and capable—a coalition of strength for the sake of peace. Our unity and joint work in Europe, with the United States, and other partners, can force Russia into peace.

Today, during our meeting with Mark Carney, we discussed strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia. And it is important that such decisions are being made. We also discussed formats of defense cooperation, Canada’s participation in financing the production of Ukrainian drones under the Danish model, and cooperation in the energy sector. Importantly, Canada will continue to provide Ukraine with energy support and assistance in recovery. I thank Mark for his strong position during the G7–Ukraine meeting and for all the support for our people. We truly have strong allies and the Prime Minister’s significant personal engagement in supporting Ukraine. And this is highly valuable.

This is a demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine — especially now, as Russia blocks any real negotiations and shows no desire for peace. We are working jointly on security guarantees for Ukraine, covering military, financial, and political support. This is a continuous process — we remain in constant contact. Yet it is the physical visit to Ukraine that allows our partners to see the real situation with their own eyes. Russia will not stop on its own. It is waging war against the entire free world. It can only be stopped by collective strength and guarantees with real substance. Only together can we achieve a lasting and just peace.

There was also a meeting in the “Ramstein” format. We are preparing decisions to support our joint defense production with partners. This is long-term security: our guarantees, European guarantees, guarantees for everyone that Russian aggression will not be able to expand and will not be rewarded. Russia must truly feel that war is worse than peace. That is exactly why sanctions are needed — especially against their oil trade. Sustained defense support for Ukraine is also essential, to protect our people and to defend our positions.

Ukraine’s partners have been supporting President Trump's efforts to open peace negotiations and preparing security guarantees to prevent Russian attacks in the future. Yesterday, in Paris, 26 countries plus the EU endorsed the plan designed by our military chiefs to provide strong, concrete security guarantees to Ukraine through air, land, sea and the regeneration of Ukraine's forces. We are ready for the day after. But for that day to come, we must continue to push Putin to the negotiating table. Only more pressure can stop this war. We are ready to do more. We are working with the United States and all like-minded partners on further sanctions, including secondary sanctions. We also discussed our common future - supporting Ukraine's reconstruction and its EU accession path. Ukraine's full membership of the EU is not only the best security guarantee, it is also the most effective path to a better future for Ukrainian people. Today, I addressed Sweden’s annual national conference "Society and Defense," one of Northern Europe’s most important security and defense events. We can see that Russia’s aggressive ambitions can be thwarted if there is sufficient strength to do so. And we can only provide such strength collectively, in solidarity, by working together to strengthen each other. Ukraine has already begun joint defense cooperation with Türkiye, Romania, Poland, and the UK. We have similar agreements with Czechia, the United States, and Germany. And, of course, our suggestion for partners is to cooperate, develop, and grow stronger together. Ukraine is and will be one of Europe’s most significant security donors. We aim for the best weapons and technology in the world for our own and our partners' security. Joint production with Sweden is a priority for us. And I am certain that the day will come when we will see the opening of the first Ukrainian-Swedish joint production in Ukraine.
