Starting with iOS 27, we can actually convert a tab bar to a sidebar. A new modifier was introduced to do this. “.defaultTabBarPlacement(.sidebar)” As of current testing, this seems to work on iPhones as well when the app is in landscape mode. This is the same behavior used in the iPhone Health app, where the tab bar converts into a sidebar in landscape mode!

Found that In iOS 27, adding the “matchedTransitionSource” modifier before applying a glass effect modifier will result in the same transition as a menu-style morphing effect! Full Implementation With Custom Tab Bar: NOTES: Video 2: Applying transition source modifier before the glass effect. Video 3: Applying transition source modifier after the glass effect. Tested on Xcode 27 Beta 5 (iOS 27 Beta 5)

Inspired by the Telegram’s iOS 26 Animated Tab Bar ✌️ I just traversed through the tab bar to find the associated Image views and simply added SF Symbol Effects to them, and it just works perfectly fine. NOTE: This is a native tab view with a tab bar.

There isn’t a single line of SwiftUI here, this is a pure UIKit implementation on iOS 18. A fully custom navigation bar that hooks into the nearest UIScrollView to show the scroll-edge effect only once the user starts scrolling. Buttons are fully custom and display a nice brightness effect (CAFilter) when touched.

LinkedIn wrapped is here! And it's made with Rive Stoked to be invited by BUCK to join the project. I wasn’t actually animating the thing though I had more of a technical assignment and we had quite a few things to solve. There is 9 chapters total (but not everyone sees all the chapters or even all the slides in given chapter) in 3 languages, the data being sent to Rive is raw so we had to cover for many variables: - A progress bar aware what chapters are included for given user - A progress bar checking what slides are included for and logging their duration time to progress bar - A custom slider solution (the default Rive slider is not enough if you turn contents on and off) - A State Machine logic aware of chapters or slides skipped from playback - A custom slider behavior for when there is auto-slide (instant) and tap-slide (slide animation) - A custom text-length tracker for to dynamically change font-size for long strings - A custom screen ratio tracker to scale down the UI for small screens - Handling dynamically handle big numbers (10,000 becomes 10k etc.) - Handling translations (3 languages) - Super complex behaviour for when if some data-point is missing we don’t leave a blank space, but it is being replaced with other data point instead (so some user se A-B-C, but some will see only B-C as if A never existed without leaving blank space) - Rage click prevention Amazing experience, thanks for having me. I’m just gonna say it: I’m disappointed with iOS 27. - It is fast, sure. - It is snappy too. - It fixes many bugs that were there since iOS 26. - It improves Liquid Glass drastically. The problem is, when I heard at WWDC26 that Apple is making iOS 27 all about optimization and polish, I was expecting iOS to return to its former glory of iOS 15. But, iOS 27 is not even 70% polished as iOS 15 was. There’s so many little things and attention to details that iOS 15 had and iOS 27 simply doesn’t. Here’s a few examples: - When you picked up a call before the contact poster update in iOS 17, using the swipe gesture, the swipe indicator itself transitions into the red hang-up button. Smoothly. On iOS 27, there’s no such transition. It just happens. - On iOS 27, the Photos app is still very slow and janky in the Collections tab. It takes several seconds for everything to load. - Just look at the Safari below. It’s just so smooth, flowy, and animations are designed so well before the Liquid Glass update. iOS 27 Safari feels like a huge downgrade. I was expecting iOS 27 to work on these little details around the system that have been going away since iOS 16. But it didn’t.

Does anyone know of a way to detect if a screen shows a menu bar? I’d like to move the lights up to the top of the screen when there’s no menu bar but I can’t find a reliable way to detect this.
