I made this in SwiftUI with Cursor and Xcode So Claude AI is actually great at iOS development. Prompt in Cursor and preview/build in Xcode. SwiftUI makes it incredibly easy to apply custom styling and animations on top of it. If you're starting out, it's really fun. There is no library to install, no server to run. Apple provides everything.

Split layout framework update. Since the last video: focus views animate, corner drags can move both axes, cross-window drag and drop with animation, all animations backed by CoreAnimation, and full accessibility framework integration (e.g. compat with VoiceOver). The focus view work was the hardest and most complicated. We allow caller-provided SwiftUI views for the focus style, but have to drop that back to a native AppKit/UIKit hosted view for smooth CoreAnimation integration with our other animations so they move in lock-step with our other stuff. Lot of work to get that to work, but I think it turned out great. The caller lives in easy SwiftUI land we handle that complexity. The animation timings and curves need to be tweaked. I think some animations are too long or don't feel right. But thats just parameterization at this point...

Tom Krikorian ᯅ and I were the main engineers working on this exciting project, and we used RealityKit, Swift and SwiftUI. For our new product, we built a chat in React Native that feels like iMessage Here's how we did it: ① Fabric Swift View ② UICollectionView ③ SwiftUI cells via UIHostingConfiguration React is responsible for the state - mutations, fetching, infinite loading - all via React Query. The native Fabric view is purely for rendering. React decides what to show, native decides how to show it The bridge between three frameworks was tricky but worth it. UICollectionView animations come for free and scroll performance is native-smooth No blank spaces and no FPS drops - all powered by the New Architecture Who wants to see the code?

I love prototyping. It’s the most important thing that sets great software above the merely good. And to that end, here’s a project a couple of us have been hacking away on, and the team is ready to add people in mass to the TestFlight. It’s an open source version of a visual programming environment, similar to Origami or Quartz Composer. In addition to being able to build anything those two can, it also supports AR, CoreML, and native 3D support. As well as being built in SwiftUI, so it runs on basically any Apple device and is easy to hack on and improve.

Comparison of Dynamic Island animations, in proper slow motion, between iOS 16 and iOS 17/18 Main downgrades since iOS 17: - the island no longer "breathes" - bouncing/springiness is now very exaggerated, perhaps even improperly eased - the blobs often don't, or incorrectly do the merging "metaball" animation - odd layering behavior, where the secondary blob is visible on top while the main activity is collapsing - (not shown) odd visual stutters, both with the island and the icons around it - (not shown) physical cutout is now often revealed/improperly masked by the animations
