The children from our team camp had a fun day out at The Sameer Project bakery 🥳 Support our bakery: The kids spent the day coloring and kneading dough to make delicious loaves of bread to take home to their families. Lots of colors were used in designing the Palestinian flag and map too! The Sameer Project’s bakery started with one oven and we currently produce 300-350 bags of freshly baked bread every single day. Daily cost is $700 - $800, including commission. We are hoping to expand and get another oven to produce even more delicious bread but for that we need your consistent support! The Sameer Project has a surprise for you, can you guess what it is? 😏 Yes, The Sameer Project is opening its first bakery in Gaza City this week to provide bags of bread for FREE to hundreds of families, help here: We are still in the testing phase at the moment and hoping to launch the bakery properly next week. Access to bread is a major issue across the Strip as it is sold for $1 a bag by the World Central Kitchen but even that amount is not affordable for many families. The World Central Kitchen has access to ingredients whereas we would have to purchase them for the full price, which means the production of one bag will cost more but we will not charge anything for it, and distribute it for free. A generous donation from the Babochki Collective (The Babochki Collective ) that has allowed us to expand and open a bakery that’s hiring ten people full time, and will hopefully provide bread for at least 200 families everyday. While walking through one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Damascus, you will stumble upon many Christian traditions. One of them is this bakery, which has been serving the Church for over 100 years. For more than a century, St. Hanania Bakery, also known as Abu Suleiman Bakery, has carried on a unique mission. Founded around 1910 by Elias Salmoon, the tradition continues today through the families of the late Gries and Mousa Salmoon, preserving the sacred craft of baking bread for Holy Communion and passing this blessed heritage from one generation to the next. The bakery is also home to one of the first dough-kneading machines introduced in Syria. In the past, families from across Damascus would gather here before Christmas and Easter to prepare their festive breads and cakes.
