Statement by SDF press: Statement by Our SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazlum Abdi Regarding the Recent Developments in Northwestern Syria „The situation in northwest Syria has developed rapidly and suddenly, with our forces facing intense attacks from multiple fronts. Following the collapse and withdrawal of the Syrian Army and its allies, we intervened to establish a humanitarian corridor between our eastern regions, Aleppo, and the Tal Rifaat area, with the aim of protecting our people from potential massacres. However, the attacks of the armed groups backed by the Turkish occupation have disrupted this corridor. Our forces have valiantly defended our people in Aleppo, Tal Rifa’at, and al-Shahba’a. We are actively coordinating with all relevant parties in Syria to ensure the safety of our people and facilitate their secure relocation from the Tal Rifa’at and Shahba’a areas to our safe areas in the northeast of the country. He was even invited to Syria by the Assad regime to do propaganda for it. He made tweets mocking hospitals being bombed in Aleppo. Also in 2016, when Aleppo was being starved and carpet bombed by Assad he went to a university demonstration full of Syrians protesting against this and held up a picture of Assad to terrorize the Syrian students.

#Lebanon: the Imam Ali Complex has come under the spotlight recently, especially after Al-Jazeera leaks revealing how Assadists are building a network expanding across the Lebanese border. Built last year near Hermel (~10 km from the Syrian border) by Hezbollah with Iranian support, the complex was built to shelter Syrian refugees, along with a few Lebanese families who lived in Syria under Assad (mostly in area of Qusseir). Residents of the complex are aligned with the "Axis of Resistance" ideology, as evidenced by the widespread presence of Hezbollah and other symbols. The Syrian refugees living there are described as Alawite and Shia families from the Coastal Areas and Homs province, some of whose members were killed fighting with Assad's forces or Syrian Hezbollah. It is strongly suspected that besides some former Regime members, Assadist insurgents are also sheltered there. The complex, built without official authorization or State supervision, has raised concerns in Lebanon itself. The IDF releases footage of troops scanning the inside of Hezbollah's tunnels beneath the Ali Taher Ridge in southern Lebanon, before the underground complex was destroyed last night. Some 50 Hezbollah operatives were believed to be holed up under Ali Taher when a new ceasefire took effect in June. Contrary to recent reports, no members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were in the tunnels, according to the IDF. The military says it killed many of the Hezbollah operatives during the offensive to capture the underground site, including some trying to flee the tunnels and some trying to bring reinforcements. A video published by the IDF shows two Hezbollah operatives being struck after opening fire from one of the tunnel shafts. Inside the tunnels, around a dozen bodies were found by the troops, according to the military. Still, some of the Hezbollah operatives are assessed to have fled the area.
