Douglas County Deputies Assist in DUI Pursuit with Successful Grappler Deployment In the early hours of October 4, 2025, at approximately 4:22 A.M., Douglas County Deputies responded to assist the Aurora Police Department in pursuit of a suspected DUI driver traveling westbound on E-470, passing Gartrell Road. Douglas County deputies responded immediately and set up two sets of stop sticks along E-470 in an attempt to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion. Despite these efforts, the suspect vehicle continued westbound. A Douglas County Deputy, operating a patrol vehicle equipped with the Grappler device, joined the pursuit along with another deputy. After positioning behind the suspect, both maneuvered to the front of the pursuit. The suspect vehicle, which struck the concrete barrier multiple times, was ultimately stopped when our deputy successfully deployed the Grappler just west of South Quebec Street. The vehicle was brought to an immediate and controlled stop. The suspect was compliant and taken into custody by Aurora Police without incident. After he was arrested in Dallas on May 30 for allegedly driving without a valid license, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm, a suspect in Texas decided to take the police wheel into his own hands. The incident happened after the suspect secretly removed his left hand from his handcuffs. When officers began driving to jail, the suspect attempted to open the squad car's rear door, prompting the officers to get out of the car, and eventually climbed into the driver’s seat and took off. One of the officers managed to jump into the backseat of the vehicle. That officer then attempted to stop the suspect by tasing him and striking him on the side of the head with his firearm. The suspect opened the driver’s side door and jumped out after driving what police said was a distance of about 1,000 feet. At that point, the police officer was able to regain control of the patrol car, and the suspect was given medical assistance before being taken back into custody, where he faces numerous charges.

Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect vehicle spun out of control and rolled backwards into a metal railing, where it was pinned in place by deputies. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. The suspect was placed into custody after a successful taser deployment. While conducting their investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause that Chism was a suspect in an earlier vehicle pursuit of a stolen Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and County Line Road. Chism was found to be in possession of the stolen Hyundai ignition key and the vehicle was recovered nearby. Chism was booked into the Douglas County Jail for investigation of Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Protection Order Violation, and Criminal Impersonation. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We will not allow criminals to victimize Douglas County residents. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community will continue to work tirelessly to protect our residents and their property. I am so proud of my deputies who responded quickly and didn’t give up until this suspect was in custody.”

A store employee reported that a suspect entered the store, stole a guitar valued at approximately $880, and fled the area on foot toward the nearby light rail station. Officers quickly located the suspect aboard a train and recovered the stolen guitar onboard. The suspect then fled from the train onto the light rail tracks and jumped an estimated 15 feet from the top of the downtown light rail station to a roof below in an attempt to evade officers. Officers established a coordinated perimeter with transit security and safely contained the area. The suspect was ultimately located and taken into custody without further incident. The stolen guitar was recovered and returned to the business. The store employee positively identified the suspect, who was taken into custody on theft and obstruction charges. Queens: 44th Street & 43rd Avenue, a 44-year-old man was assaulted and carjacked last Monday while picking up items at Corona Avenue & 92nd Street in Elmhurst, Queens. Police said the victim had returned to his vehicle after collecting the items when he was approached by a suspect. The suspect allegedly punched him in the back and threw him to the ground before getting into the vehicle and driving away. A short time later, officers located the stolen vehicle near 44th Street and 43rd Avenue with the suspect still behind the wheel. Police ordered the suspect at gunpoint to exit the vehicle, but he refused to comply. SAINT PAUL: 6xx Saint Anthony Ave. - Squads were called to a burglary of an occupied residence where the suspect allegedly broke in, punched the resident, and stole their car keys before taking the car. Officers were able to track an AirPod inside the vehicle and quickly located the suspect on I-94 westbound where a pursuit was initiated. The driver crashed down an embankment before fleeing on foot. Officers engaged in a short foot pursuit before a taser was used to subdue the male suspect. Officers took the male into custody and requested EMS to respond for a medical evaluation.

At 10.59am today (Monday) police received a report of a man in Tyrrel Street, Bradford, who was said to be carrying a knife. Officers with Taser were deployed and the man was sighted nearby still holding the blade. He was told to put the knife down but refused. Drone First Responder Helps Officers Catch Shoplifting Suspect On June 17 at approximately 7:45 p.m., Arvada Police received a report from a loss prevention officer of an active shoplifting incident at the Target near 78th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard. When confronted by store security, the suspect fled east on foot. Fortunately, our Drone First Responder (DFR) program was already in the air and quickly located the suspect, tracking his movements to a nearby Arby’s at 80th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard. Responding officers arrived and were able to safely identify and contact the suspect inside the restaurant. During the investigation, officers discovered the suspect had an active arrest warrant and was allegedly responsible for stealing more than $340 worth of merchandise from the store. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to jail. The Drone First Responder program continues to provide officers with real-time information, helping improve response times and safely resolve incidents throughout our community.
