#UPDATE: Turkey to expand military training and security support for Somalia #Turkey will continue and expand its military training, consultancy and security support to #Somalia as part of efforts to enhance international stability, Defence Ministry spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk said. Speaking at a weekly press briefing in #Ankara, Aktürk said Turkish support is focused on strengthening security and stability in Somalia. He noted that Turkey is providing assistance to protect drilling activities and the “Spaceport and Test Firing Range” under construction, as well as supporting counter-terrorism operations carried out by the Somali National Army. Aktürk said the Turkish Armed Forces will maintain a strong deterrent presence through ongoing support and deployments in Somalia. Naval elements operating in the Gulf of Aden, off the Somali coast and in the Arabian Sea have conducted port visits to #Mogadishu. A delegation from Turkey’s Naval Forces Command also recently visited Somalia to review ongoing activities and military cooperation between the two countries.
