A video is circulating on Russian Telegram channels of someone burning the flag of the Russian Empire in Bashkortostan. The black, yellow and white flag was the official flag of the Russian Empire for a brief period in the 19th century, but in modern times it has been adopted by Russian monarchists and nationalists. It is also used in an official capacity, alongside the flag of the Russian Federation and the USSR. This symbol represents the continuity of the Russian Empire, used by Russian imperialists to highlight its grandeur and colonial power. It is no surprise that in many regions of the Russian Federation, where peoples oppressed by Russians live—such as in Bashkortostan, home to the Bashkirs—this symbol provokes rejection and even disgust. Bashkortostan is one of many internal colonies of the Russian Federation. The land is rich in natural resources, such as gas and oil, but Moscow profits at the expense of the Bashkirs. There is an independence movement in the republic, which Telegram channels link to the recent flag-burning incident. True victory over Russia and the removal of the threat it poses to global stability will only come with the downfall of the Empire.

During interaction with students yesterday, one thing that struck me is the sheer demonisation of protests in all these years. Some kids had come to Jantar Mantar at CJP protest to witness their “first ever protest in life.” (Listen to one such interaction below) The crowd was a mix -Youngsters from humble backgrounds, from affluent families, and also elderly people. Most said the country’s mainstream media (TV channels) failed to show the country’s reality and were biased. Most were tired of Hindu-Muslim shows. #GenZ

🥴 Residents of a village in Bashkortostan wrote to the Pope asking him to fix their road Villagers from Boriskino have been trying for ten years to get local authorities to repair it — and ended up appealing to the Vatican. The catch: they sent the letter to Pope Francis, who has already passed away; the current pontiff is Leo XIV.

"I want to live! I want to go back to my family!" "What family? You f*cking non-Russian monkey! On your knees!" Russian commanders humiliate, pelt with stones, threaten to kill, and shoot at a soldier from Bashkortostan who was thrown into a pit, most likely for refusing to participate in a "meat assault." 📹: Footage from the phone of a captured Russian soldier was posted by fighters from the Bashkort Company - volunteers from Bashkortostan who have been fighting on Ukraine’s side against Putin’s army since 2022.

🔴 BREAKING Internet access has been cut nationwide as protests escalated across multiple regions of Iran. Kurdish political parties and bazaars are calling for strikes, while exiled political leader Reza Pahlavi, who met with Israeli political leaders today, called for mass street protests. Violence was reported in western Iranian cities, particularly Kermanshah, with further deaths reported among protesters and security forces. Militant groups, including the Kurdish Freedom Party, have vowed to fight Iranian security forces in the region. Chants at the protests reported by Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency range from “death to the dictator,” to “long live the shah [Reza Pahlavi],” and “the shah is dishonorable.” U.S. President Trump, for the third time, has threatened to hit Iran hard if it “starts killing people,” while acknowledging that “some people have died so far from stampedes” during the protests. Meanwhile, armed militant separatist groups in Kurdish and Baloch areas have also vowed to fight Iranian forces.
