Ever go to a country and find out they may have a weird custom or practice that you aren’t used to? If you go to Japan and get a phone to use or purchase, it will function like a normal phone. However even if you silence it or put it on vibrate only, when you try to take a video or a picture, the phone will still make a shutter sound. It’s against the law in Japan for manufacturers to sell a phone there that doesn’t make these sounds when using a camera. They do this so whenever people take pictures of others, the sound can alert others in case they were trying to do it in secret because they were trying to take provocative photos of women in public. Do you agree with this practice, should other countries follow suit?

This is the opening section of the Brahms clarinet sonata in F minor. Here you get the themes of the first movement. Chamber music is nice and interesting because you hear instruments like the clarinet in their full glory - not just as a component of the orchestra, drowned out by strings. Different instruments can hit the f minor pitch, but they all do it with their own timbre - that’s the individuality of the instrument, and you get to experience that in works like this. And someone like Brahms can work out smaller ideas with just a piano and clarinet that he might use later in larger symphonic works. It’s a more intimate form of music because it’s going to be played in a smaller room with fewer listeners, but also because the composer might be trying out something out that isn’t necessarily ready for the big stage. In all events, the opening theme has a haunting quality to it I like this time of year, when it’s rainy and dark. Full link in next post.

A pretty typical day for me consists of: —Mass —Rosary —Exercise —Reading/research —Writing —Laying the groundwork for future Eternal Christendom projects —Piano practice (old and new repertoire) We pray for our patrons everyday. We are digging into the pieces of the Great Tradition everyday to share treasure with you all. And I keep music a regular part of my life not only for the joy of it, but because it helps me maintain and grow my creative discipline in one of the great arts. I’ve recently been working on some of Chopin’s Etudes, including the “Ocean” Etude the clip below comes from (for its imitation of rolling waves). I believe music—whether as a musician, or as an attuned listener—plays a vital part in the spiritual, intellectual, and emotional formation of any one striving for virtue. I’ve learned so many disciplines from music, and have many more yet to learn and improve at. If you learn to know and love great music, it will help you grow in many ways. The rise and fall of a culture and society can in many ways be traced by analyzing its music.

The Fotoplayer was an instrument developed by the American Photo Player Co. between the years of 1912 and 1925, used to provide music and sound effects for silent movies. Before movies had sound, playing background music during a film aided in developing a particular mood for a certain scene. Initially, small theatres would use player pianos to produce music automatically from piano rolls. After some time, some of these pianos were extended in size with pipe organs and sound effects inserted into large cabinets connected to the sides of the piano. The user of this new contraption could then create multiple sounds to match the actions on screen. Between 8,000 and 12,000 of these musical instruments were made between 1910 and 1928. The appeal of the Fotoplayer to theatre owners was the fact that it took no major musical skill to operate. The Fotoplayer would play the piano and pipe organ mechanically using an electric motor, an air pump, and piano rolls while the user of the Fotoplayer would follow the onscreen action while pulling cords, pushing buttons, and pressing pedals to produce relatable sounds to what was occurring onscreen.

🧸 can i just say one thing? 🧸 i really hope you guys won’t misunderstand what i’m saying 🧸 these days, AI has developed so much in such a short time. t’s made incredible progress in such a short period, and it’s helping us a lot in our daily lives now 🧸 but at least when people make videos or music using AI, i think it should be clearly indicated that AI was used 🧸 because when i watch youtube or scroll through instagram reels and listen music lately, there’re so many times i honestly can’t tell whether something is real or not. that’s how advanced AI has become 🧸 so that’s why, when people use AI, i really think it should be clearly labeled that AI was used

You can run CUDA, on a Mac ARM GPU, in the browser. It sounds ridiculous but it actually works. HipScript chains CUDA, to OpenCL, to Vulkan, to Tint (Google’s shader translator), to a WASM WebGPU. I got a plasma simulation in running in just a few minutes, no NVIDIA GPU!

It was very affirming to find him pushing for the same things Google Magenta Project has always valued: making tools that intrinsically value creativity and agency over just imitation, embrace the “weird corners” of AI, encouraging veterans to express themselves in new ways, while empowering novices to express themselves musically maybe for the first time. This Is It is a fascinating yet tragic look into the final days of Michael Jackson’s life. This is a concert-film/documentary that was supposed to show MJ’s preparation for his concert series in London. Instead, it turned into a chronicle of MJ’s final days. Two of my best friends & I saw this in theaters the day it came out. I couldn’t wrap my head around how just weak & tired MJ looks in this documentary, he looks so run-down, it breaks my heart. And losing such a talented visionary at only 50 years? Especially in a day & age when so many artists are working into their 80s. It’s still breaks my heart. All of that said, this film means a lot to so many people who appreciated Michael’s music like I do. Is it a tough watch? Yes. But I’m glad this exists- it brought me closer to Michael Jackson’s process as an artist.

Baboon's thoughts as music? As you already know, ELVIS has a BCI implant. This 400-channel device allows not only the reception but also the transmission of neural activity data. Although this data is complex, it can be interpreted in various ways. In this experiment, an algorithm converts baboon’s EEG into a MIDI signal that can be used with any virtual instrument - in this case, Ableton along with a simple instrument featuring an arpeggiator effect. The selected brain activity file is converted into a set of MIDI signals that activate specific notes. With adjustable quantization and harmony settings, it’s possible to create beautiful melodies. This setup allows the use of virtual instruments to express the thoughts and feelings of ELVIS in sound. So, the question is: does ELVIS need a record label?

Unknown to many of you, before Mansa Plus, I was (feels weird saying I was, I still I’m) a musician. @raysmanifests was my music manager! We gave it our all! But guess what, it didn’t work out! Put in a lot of money, recording music, making videos, pushing the songs, but the result was next to zero. On my music YouTube Channel I have under 1400 subscribers! @willyskihumba has had his days as a musician and a Dj, but I will let him tell his story! To an outsider, that looks like failure, and for sure it is failure! However, it was that experience that we used to build Mansa Plus, or rather prepped us to handle what was coming. When we were busy begging people to subscribe and watch our content, it didn’t feel weird because we had been doing it throughout our music days. When we tried to work with certain people and they shut doors on us, we were in familiar territory. When we went months without pay but showed up everyday, that was the norm in our music days! When some people made fun of me and my accent, come on, we were already used to it! And when it came down to work, I was already used to being in front of the camera… I guess as Jay says, it’s not failure it’s a lesson. I’m very proud of what we are doing in this space, and I’m even more proud of every moment that has read us here! It really is in the journey and who you journey with. It’s been a strange and rough week on the international stage, locally with criminal doxxing - and I’ve had my own bumps. I like to sit in the dark and listen to music when I want to calm down and realize whatever is going on - things will be ok. This is the complete slow section of Beethoven’s 8th Piano Sonata. Everyone familiar with classical era music will know it already. People who don’t listen to this music probably have heard it on TV or excerpts in a film. It’s a good movement to teach someone ‘Rondo form’ because it’s so easy to follow. You will hear the main theme right up front for over a minute - and then two more times.
