Mona, a member of the Federation of the Blind, gave amazing testimony yesterday about Tesla’s Cybercab after sitting in it this week: "To have something like the Cybercab would be very beneficial to us as the blind community; It’s got Braille in there. Nobody else has Braille. This would be so beneficial. The app is wonderful. There’s space to put the wheelchair. They can just push themselves right in. A lot of times, the Uber and Lyft if they see you with a dog or cane, they drive right past you. With Cybercab, it doesn't know that you're blind. It doesn't know that you're in a wheelchair. It just knows that you need a ride, so I completely love the car. Just sitting in it, how comfortable it is, just knowing something is accessible - it’s the most amazing thing out there." (via the Nevada Transportation Authority's general session meeting yesterday)

We have to rethink some of our requirements, especially for autonomous vehicles, which will allow them to bring down price, maintain the safety structure, but move forward and be competitive with the rest of the world."

ULEZ is expanding across all London boroughs from the 29 August this year to help clear London's air. Those in receipt of certain disability benefits currently qualify for a temporary 100% discount. So do disabled people whose vehicles are registered with the DVLA as having disabled or disabled passenger vehicle tax class. There are also exemptions and temporary discounts for certain wheelchair-accessible vehicles, minibuses used for community transport, historic vehicles and some other vehicles too. Eligible NHS patients may also be able to claim back the charge after they've paid. Remember: if your vehicle is registered for an exemption or temporary discount you may still need to pay the ULEZ charge if you drive a different vehicle that doesn't meet the ULEZ emission standards in the zone. 9 out of 10 cars seen driving in outer London already meet the ULEZ emission standards, based on monthly average compliance levels. If you find that your vehicle is not compliant you can check whether you are eligible for the vehicle scrappage scheme. 🔗 Check ULEZ discounts and exemptions

.Kyle Conner makes some good points that the Cybercab is (obviously) designed for autonomous driving, and not manual driving: "It would be kind of bad to drive because you have massive A-pillars. The windshield doesn't come up very high. You sit way too far back, so clearly this is not designed to be a driven vehicle. I thought maybe the early ones would ship with a steering wheel. You're not driving this thing with A-pillars like that."

Today I finally get to play in the snow in a yard. MY YARD! AND I LOVE IT! I live in a house that love bought. We always lived in apartments because there's no wheelchair accessible houses to rent. With a LOT of help and a human friend to split it with, we finally got a house with ramps and an accessible bathroom. It would make sense for Cybercab to have Brembo’s Sensify Braking system, which is a fully software-controlled, fluid-free braking system. Brembo said they’re working with a “major undisclosed global manufacturer” entering series production in the hundreds of thousands. It could very well be Cybercab. Each wheel has its own dedicated electric actuator with redundancies. It would make sense for Cybercab, since the whole vehicle is being driven by AI already. The system offers higher efficiency and more control over brake operation. It is fully customizable and designed for autonomous vehicles as well. You can read more about it in the post below.
