She was worried about being nervous in the Robotaxi but after 3 rides felt it was so good it was boring in a great way! She also thinks this service in general, and Tesla AI FSD specifically could be a huge help to people like her mother. Check it out!

Here is my experience (in 4K) from earlier today in one of the world's first ever public Tesla Robotaxi rides in Austin, Texas with FSD Unsupervised! No-one is in the driver seat and the safety monitor in the passenger seat does not have a steering or pedals. It was awesome.

If you're interested in Tesla Robotaxi, Tesla AI or Tesla FSD, then you ought to know about jimmah . He's probably the one person who's done the deepest public dives on Tesla FSD and Tesla AI over the years. In fact, over the past 4 years I've published 40+ videos (!) with James Douma on Tesla AI/FSD (they are all on a playlist on my YouTube channel). I first discovered James Douma a long time ago (maybe almost 8-10 years ago?) on a web forum called . Back then it was one of the only places for early Tesla owners and TSLA investors to discuss issues deeply. While I posted about investing topics, James posted about Tesla Autopilot and its hardware but in a way that was more thorough than anybody else. When I started posting YouTube videos years later, I invited him on my channel to hear his thoughts on Tesla Autopilot/FSD. It was a riveting discussion and I was surprised at how much I could learn from him. I invited him again for another interview on my channel, and once again I was floored by how much I was learning. So over the years, James has been a great resource for me (and many others) to keep pulse on what Tesla is doing with FSD and AI (and even robotics). He doesn't have his own YouTube channel. He doesn't have any paid services or subscriptions. He probably has mixed feelings about so many people knowing about him. But I appreciate his willingness over the years to be available and help the Tesla community by offering his insights and knowledge. Yesterday I spent most of the day with James taking Robotaxi rides and discussion all things Robotaxi: - current state of Robotaxi - quality of Robotaxi rides - possible scaling plans - challenges - comparison to Waymo and others - Tesla AI 5 - and much more Attached is a 2+ hour edited video of our Robotaxi rides and discussion. Tesla unsupervised Robotaxi hitting and going through bollards. Is this the first recorded instance of an unsupervised robotaxi hitting an object? It was supposed to go around it. I’ve had a critical disengagement once here too with my car. Holy shit wasn’t expecting it to just go through. Luckily there was no damage to the bollards or the car. People have run them over too in front of me but wasn’t expecting the robotaxi to do it. Will this be in the NHTSA report?? I don’t think this can be considered an “accident”

One year ago a small group or people including me received an invitation from Tesla_AI to be among the first to participate in the launch of the Tesla Robotaxi service. The launch took place in Austin Texas on 22 June 2025 and was punctuated by a lot of excitement, some uncertainty or what to expect, waiting for the app to download and then hailing the first ride as the small group of participants faced out in the initial service area and waited for their Robotaxi to arrive! For this initial launch, Tesla used Model Y's with the "Robotaxi" logos on the doors and rear hatch and had supervisors in the passenger seat but the cars all drove autonomously and did exceptionally well. We had all kinds of media trailing behind trying to get images, interviews or any information about our experiences, and this made for a surreal day, almost like paparazzi chasing after high-profile celebrities. Over the next year, the Robotaxi service would slowly scale to new cities, initially Austin and the San Fransisco areas, and then later to Houston and Dallas while preparations for several more cities were underway. The fleet did scale up but slowly, going through several revisions and updates of the autonomous software, becoming fully unsupervised and the fleet management aspects of the Robotaxi service were further developed. Regulatory permits and filings also took place to position the Robotaxi service for what we all hope will be large-scale expansion including the addition of the new Cybercabs, which are now in limited production and are testing multiple locations around the US. What will year 2 be like for Robotaxi? All indications are a very big year, but ultimately, Tesla needs to demonstrate they can execute on their plans, preparations and Cybercab production. I'm very hopeful they will be able to do so starting very soon!
