Here is my experience (in 4K) from earlier today in one of the world's first ever public Tesla Robotaxi rides in Austin, Texas with FSD Unsupervised! No-one is in the driver seat and the safety monitor in the passenger seat does not have a steering or pedals. It was awesome.

Tesla Unsupervised Robotaxi is such a cool experience. Being able to sit back and relax, watch a movie, get some work done, or take a nap while being driven is the future. Truly unreal. Try it out if you’re in Dallas, Austin, or Houston!

As expected, Tesla’s Model Y ride-hailing service in the Bay Area currently has a safety driver in the driver’s seat, which is why Tesla is calling it a ride-hailing service rather than a Robotaxi service. It is still a paid service though and is likely using the same software as the Austin Robotaxis. Once Tesla receives the required permit, they will remove the safety driver and instead have a safety monitor in the passenger seat like they do in Austin. That could happen within the next 1–2 months, according to Elon.

Tesla Unsupervised Robotaxi in Austin 1. First time at night after 7:30 PM 2. Literally pulled over for cops 3. It lowered the cabin volume while it stopped for first cop and then continued waiting for second cop car 4. Slowly turned the music up back to original volume. Incredible!! This Model Y is driving itself from the end of the Giga Texas production line to its designated lane at the outbound lot. Note: This is not the quicksilver Model Y that drove itself completely autonomously to a customer in Austin today. This Ultra Red Model Y below will be shipped elsewhere.

Tesla unsupervised Tesla Robotaxi hitting and going through bollards. Is this the first recorded instance of an unsupervised robotaxi hitting an object? It was supposed to go around it. I’ve had a critical disengagement once here too with my car. Holy shit wasn’t expecting it to just go through. Luckily there was no damage to the bollards or the car. People have run them over too in front of me but wasn’t expecting the robotaxi to do it. Will this be in the NHTSA report?? I don’t think this can be considered an “accident”

I keep hearing some people claim Tesla Robotaxi cannot drive in heavy rain ... well, here is a video I took of it doing just that and the rain was coming down in sheets ... listen to the rain hitting the car! Oh, after I finished my Robotaxi rides for the day, I then got into my Tesla AI FSD equipped 2025 Model 3 & it drove me about 80 miles back to San Antonio in this kind of rain ... zero disconnects or interventions the entire way home. I think it does pretty well!
