Tesla's next-generation vehicle (coming in 2025) will use a groundbreaking manufacturing process that the company calls the "Unboxed Process." Here's an explanation by Lars of what that means and why it's a big deal:

@larsmoravy I was old enough to remember when Elon said the cybertruck manufacturing process was so next level that the cost would be so low we’d sell millions of cybertrucks to the average person. No paint meant cheap prices. What happened to that? My cybertruck is $100k lol!!

@larsmoravy If Tesla announced on the earnings call that the next GEN vehicle would be produced at the end of this year that could've really hurt model 3 and model Y deliveries. They need to keep this thing low key

@larsmoravy Don’t really see big difference in total cost of building a B segment EV. Manufacturing cost is not a big part of the total cost.

@larsmoravy Changing the way a vehicle is built affects almost all categories including materials, logistics, manufacturing, R&D, commercial, profit margin, etc.

@larsmoravy Iterating on design processes is so gratifying to watch execute 💯

@larsmoravy Gotta say, 40 companies are copying this already 🙃 They all say “good idea thanks”

This is why traditional Unions aren’t a good fit at Tesla. Anytime they want to improve the production process the Union demands that it be done in ways that usually defeat any potential productivity gains. There’s no way this could happen at Ford or GM without the Union having a say.

@larsmoravy Imagine the incredible potential of this car. It will be a $25K compact car with all the cutting edge innovation and technology of Tesla. The model Y is the best selling car in the world; when this scales it will be five times more vehicles sold per year than the model Y!

@larsmoravy This is really beautiful.

@larsmoravy Tesla is different from any manufacturer today in that its continuous innovation is revolutionary
