Tested FSD v12.3 in downtown Chicago yesterday — zero disengagements / interventions in the first 30 minutes despite incredibly dense traffic & pedestrians during St. Patrick's Day festivities. Extremely impressive. A couple of my favorite moments are at 5:17 and 7:00. Overall, v12.3 seems like a major step forward... and I'm excited to keep testing. It feels smoother, much more natural, and more capable of creative decision making in challenging scenarios. My camera overheated, but I tested for a total of about an hour and a half in this same environment. The most impressive moments were lost, unfortunately, but it flawlessly handled back-to-back extremely complex intersections, which were all-way stop signs with 6 lanes of traffic and 50+ pedestrians. Pretty mind-blowing. Throughout the whole drive, there were 3 disengagements and no other interventions: 1) Tried to turn one block too early, the wrong way on a one-way. Not great, but not a show stopper long-term, IMO. 2) At an intersection, shortly after the light changed to green, there was a fire truck with its sirens on approaching on the cross street. Visibility was obscured by a large SUV in the lane to the left of the vehicle. I head the sirens getting louder and the SUV stopped proceeding, so I had to brake. Without audio input, I don't know how FSD could ever properly react to this situation due to the occluded vision. 3) In heavy traffic, FSD moved out of the lane we needed to be in. It tried to get back over, but there was not enough time or space, so it proceeding to a new route. This led to a planned u-turn in extremely heavy traffic. I got a notice saying FSD could not complete the maneuver, and FSD kept going to the next intersection, which led to the same plan. It attempted to start the maneuver, but I had to take over. The video shows how crazy Chicago was yesterday, St. Patrick's Day celebrations are huge here. If you are not used to this environment, many drivers would struggle. FSD handled things calmly and confidently, with only one instance that I recall annoying any other drivers due to being too slow or cautious, something that would happen a lot on previous versions of FSD. FSD v12.3 seems like a major step forward from my early testing, and hopefully it provides the proper foundation to accelerate the rate of progress significantly. It's not perfect, and it's still going to take time, but I am excited. Congrats to the Tesla team.show more

FSD slams on the brakes for a cat in the road that doesn’t even exist. This is FSD 12.6.4 on HW3, which is a lot more sensitive to shadows & objects in the road with the 2026.8.6 update. There are many reports of brake stabbing. It brings me back to the days when I was testing with v10.3 of FSD back in 2021. It’s interesting that it’s the same FSD version as before, and not something like 12.6.4.1, but I guess Tesla can change the weights without changing the version. And they’ve likely been doing this for a while with 12.6.4. 😒

FSD V14.1.7 | Near Accident This is without a doubt the closest I have come to getting into an accident in a long time. I think had I not taken over and slammed on the brakes we would not have slowed down in time. You can see that FSD does an incredible job reacting to the car (even before I noticed it) and was slowing down, but it was not slowing down enough to stop in time. As soon as I saw the car swerving to the right I worried she was going to bounce back into my lane so that is when I decided to go full on the brakes to stop the car. You can see prior to me taking over we were full regen braking (which is FSD reacting well) but it wasn't using any real brakes at all, and ABS was not active until I took over. Let me know what you all think in the comments. I still think FSD is incredible - the reality is if you watch the video the car saw and reacted to the situation before I did, it just didn't brake as agressively as it needed to in this situation. FSD + an attentive driver is without a doubt in my mind still safer than a normal human driver who is not using FSD.

I just got back from over 3 hours of driving to and around Boston using Tesla FSD V14.1.3. No interventions. It was great. V14 is ready to be released wide in my opinion. It feels noticeably smoother and more comfortable in everyday driving compared to 14.1.2. That's especially impressive since I tested 14.1.3 in Boston at night, while V14.1.2 was only tested in southern New Hampshire (less challenging). I only noticed one minor hesitation at a stoplight and one issue during a curbside drop-off at the start of this video, where it circled the block once before pulling over in the correct area, but both were not a big deal. I had no safety issues tonight. There was also an interesting moment in the video where I accidentally set the curbside drop-off area in a dead end street. FSD took a little while figuring out how to back out, but it eventually did it without my help. If you'd like to watch the 4K version of this video on YouTube, I've linked that in the thread below.

I had one of those moments today that really showed me how much Tesla’s FSD has improved. We were heading to our next destination, and I turned on FSD in my Cybertruck. Instead of taking the obvious route out of the parking lot, it made a turn and drove straight into a parking garage. At that point, my significant other was yelling at me to disengage bc she didn’t want to waste time. Her argument was simple… FSD will probably get confused in a situation like this and we may end up going on an infinite loop FSD ride here. A parking garage is a pretty challenging environment if you think about it… multiple levels, ramps, tight turns, parked cars, limited visibility, and signs that can be easy to miss. But I told her I wanted to see what it would do. My thinking was that the latest version of FSD is much better at understanding their surroundings, reading signs, recognizing where they are, and making decisions based on what they see in real time. Sure enough, after realizing it wasn’t on the correct path, my Cybertruck kept moving, analyzed the situation, followed the garage layout, went all the way to the top floor, found the exit, and drove itself back out. Then it continued toward our destination without me touching the wheel. What impressed me wasn’t that it made a wrong turn… tbh human drivers do that all the time. What impressed me was that it recognized the situation, adapted, and successfully recovered on its own. Years ago, that probably would have been the end of the experiment bc it would go on an infinite loop, eventually resulting in a disengagement. Today, with FSD v14.3.4, it felt like watching the AI handle an unexpected problem and work its way through it. For me, that’s one of the biggest signs of progress in Tesla FSD, where it’s not 100% perfect, yet being able to make sense of a mistake, figuring out a solution, and moving forward.

I've been using FSD in my Tesla Model X for nearly a year. Here's the Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Tesla's FSD... The Good: - FSD is bar far, the most advanced driving technology I've ever experienced in any vehicle. - I use it every day, on every drive. Why? Because it reduces my driving work substantially. It keeps the car centered in the lane, keeps an appropriate following distance, stops for red lights and stop signs, turns where I need to turn and handles 99% of my driving tasks. - I think driving with FSD is FAR safer than driving without it because it reduces the "dumb" mistakes that drivers make that cause accidents. Mistakes like being distracted and missing the fact that the light is turning red or that the car in front of you just hit the breaks, or swerving out of your lane, or forgetting an exit or a turn and trying to make a heroic move to stay on course. All of these things are handled by FSD with grace and it likely is saving countless accidents. - Long drives and road trips are a pleasure with FSD because you are not fatigued with the many thousands of micro driving tasks, such as keeping the car centered in the lane or even worrying about where you're going. The car does all of that for you (and Navigate on Autopilot also does 95% of this for road trips). - When I use FSD, I have near-0 road rage, never speed up rapidly for no good reason and I am generally a more relaxed driver. The Bad: - Sometimes FSD has Schizophrenia, sees things that aren't there, slows for no reason, is indecisive on whether to go or stop which causes it to do extreme movements of the steering wheel, breaks and accelerator. In most of these circumstances, it's not unsafe, but as the driver sitting in the driver's seat, it is quite embarrassing, especially if you have passengers in the vehicle. - There are times when FSD makes a truly unsafe mistake, misses a red light (super rare) and tries to go when it should clearly stop, or slams on the break because it thinks a car might cross paths when the car was clearly not going to. In all these instances, it's super easy to take over and correct FSD's mistake. I don't even think twice about it...I quickly take over, correct the mistake, and put it back on FSD. The Ugly: - FSD is nearly useless in parking lots. It is surprisingly bad, especially since Elon Musk introduced the "Summon" feature long before FSD was released publicly. He said "just like humans, the AI also needs to learn driving by starting in the parking lot." 5 Years later, Summon still sucks and FSD has no idea how to drive in a parking lot. - Despite the many praises that a specific release often gets on Twitter, my personal experience has been that a new release could actually be worse than the previous version. For example, when my FSD upgraded from 10.69 to 11.3, it lost its ability to get in & out of HOV lanes on the freeway (I live in Scottsdale AZ). This simple loss of functionality (which returned with 11.4) caused numerous missed exits and route delays due to my over-reliance on FSD. - FSD makes some incredibly bad choices that are unexplainable, like certain lane changes, or last-second preparation to try and make a turn from 3 lanes away. These mistakes get better and worse with each release...it's a mixed bag as to what you're going to get with an update. - Your car's FSD never ever learns or improves by user input (not without an update). So it will make the exact same mistake in the exact same location, every, single, time. That can be super annoying. Conclusion: Despite the shortcomings, FSD is a technology marvel that I prefer not to live without. I don't see myself having a primary car that doesn't have Tesla-level FSD capabilities anytime in the future. Even the basic Autopilot features of Tesla are far superior to any other vehicle I've experienced. And despite what Elon says, the rate of improvement that I have experienced in the past year will not put it on a trajectory to be ready without a backup driver anytime in the next year or two. But with a backup driver, FSD is incredible, makes driving safer and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

First (potential) safety critical disengagement that I've had in quite a while on 13.2.9. Watch first and then read, curious if others would make the same mistake FSD did. I was supervising and didn't even realize the mistake that FSD made until it was too late. Fortunately nothing happened but this could have been really bad, and I blame whoever setup the cones more than I do FSD. I ended up disengaging at the very end just because I realized we were on the other side of the road with no way to get back to the proper side so I took over and sped up to get out of the lane of oncoming traffic. Shoutout to Matthew Raistrick for making it easy to get this clip in full quality.

Tesla FSD V14.3 first drive impressions: • Highway follow distance is more comfortable • Quicker take off from stop signs after coming to a complete stop • Highway lane change hesitation from previous versions seems gone for me • The navigation routes it takes are still sometimes confusing • It understood detour signs correctly on its way to a Supercharger, but got confused after with how to navigate to the Supercharger. It eventually figured it out. • For the most part, FSD does seem to be choosing parking spots closer to the designation, which is good, but I'm not noticing a big change in parking behavior overall. • Blinker activates later than previous version of FSD, a nice improvement • Speed profiles seem mostly the same Overall, I'm not noticing huge changes vs 14.2.2.5 in my first couple of drives, so I need more time with it. V14.3 does need some smoothening out, but I expect that with a bigger dot release like this. V14.3 feels like it's setting the stage for something larger to come, and that further reasoning capabilities will be added in future FSD updates.

This major issue with the FSD 14.3 branch is still present in 14.3.4. FSD has completely forgotten how to handle this green left turn arrow FSD fights back if you try to hold the accelerator and in 2 of the 3 attempts this causes the wheel to fly around so much I have to grab it This is a major issue that generally results in a critical disengagement (either getting completely stuck at the light or becoming stranded in the intersection if the car goes the wrong way - either way confusing human traffic). Rarely the car does somewhat respond to the accelerator and can be coaxed through. FSD has never had this level of difficulty going through this intersection from this direction through 14.2.2.5

We are seeing lots of examples of FSD doing really well in the Netherlands, and that’s great. But from my own and my friends’ experience, I know that despite it doing great most of the time, it makes mistakes every now and then. I’d love for these to be shared too so we get a realistic view of EU FSD. Out of the 4 instances I experienced, I was only recording during one - and it was the most serious. The car turned left onto Wibautstraat, a big through-traffic street in Adam East. It then did something really weird: in the flow of traffic after a green light, it suddenly stopped in the middle of a crossing on the right side of the right lane (but blocking traffic from behind), despite the navigation directing it to continue on Wibautstraat. 🤷‍♂️

Sprinkle of Cybertruck FSD mishaps. FSD v14.2.1. FSD was getting ready to make a left turn. In fairness, I pushed the pedal as there still was time to make the turn before the oncoming car. However, I took the foot off and the truck came to a stop. Then when the turn was almost complete, FSD threw the red hands and the message said "Aborted with a system error." If you are wondering why I looked at the camera in between, I wanted to make sure it was recording the situation. I have hours of video footage I recorded while driving on FSD 14.2 and 14.2.1.

FSD V13 Disengagement On my drive home yesterday we were coming up on an accident and FSD showed no real signs of slowing down for the wall of traffic we were moving towards. Could it have slowed down in time, probably? But I didn't want to slam on the brakes and hope that the semi truck behind us would do the same. This is a situation that could so easilly have been avoided if FSD was more cautious about coming up on stopped traffic. I also think FSD should take into account the traffic data it's getting. The map showed bright red, so even without seeing cars FSD could know that there's a really good chance that there's going to be slow moving traffic up ahead. Rather than race towards the wall of traffic perhaps take the cautious approach. I'll always argue in favor of safety, it doesn't matter how fast FSD can make decisions, you are still sharing the road with meat cubes who use TikTok and drive. FSD V13 Disengagement On my drive home yesterday we were coming up on an accident and FSD showed no real signs of slowing down for the wall of traffic we were moving towards. Could it have slowed down in time, probably? But I didn't want to slam on the brakes and hope that the semi truck behind us would do the same. This is a situation that could so easilly have been avoided if FSD was more cautious about coming up on stopped traffic. I also think FSD should take into account the traffic data it's getting. The map showed bright red, so even without seeing cars FSD could know that there's a really good chance that there's going to be slow moving traffic up ahead. Rather than race towards the wall of traffic perhaps take the cautious approach. I'll always argue in favor of safety, it doesn't matter how fast FSD can make decisions, you are still sharing the road with meat cubes who use TikTok and drive. Forget UPL, it's the Devin's simple right hand turn that FSD needs to master first. I am blown away that software as good as FSD can make mistakes as simple but devastating as this. This is the second time in less than two weeks that FSD has tried to pull infront of a vehicle on a VERY SIMPLE right hand turn. The car drove pretty much flawlessly all day today (3~ hours of driving) but it ends the day with a move like this and it just takes all the confidence I have with FSD away in a simple move. I understand that the version of FSD we have today is not what will be used in Austin in June, but the fact that FSD is making decisions like this and 'full autonomy' is less than 3 months away - it's a bit concerning to me. One of the wildest things happened to me today on FSD v14.2.2.5 - and I recorded the whole thing. On the way to the Oakland Zoo (47 minutes, 41 miles), I told my significant other I wasn’t going to disengage when we got there. I wanted to see how it would handle the ticket booth. Of course, I said I’d take over if anything unsafe happened, which, by the way, it didn’t - I never needed to disengage the entire ride. This is what happened. We pulled up to the entrance. The car stopped for the ticket attendant. I rolled down the window, told him we had tickets, and he said, “Take a left.” But FSD kept going straight. It probably kept going straight even though the man told me to go left bc it was locked onto a different location in the zoo in the navigation, which was straight ahead. So it continued forward, then exited, and rerouted itself back to the zoo. However, this time, I turned off the destination in the navigation. I turned on Grok and told it we needed to take a left this time. I pulled up to the attendant again, told him I went straight the first time bc I was running FSD, and after that brief conversation… the car took the left, entered the correct area, and then found parking. I was shocked, despite my significant other being frustrated. Bc not only did I never disengage the entire 47 minute ride, but Tesla FSD adapted to this edge case scenario. And this was when I realized I’m witnessing the early signs of sentient behavior in Tesla AI…

As requested, here is the footage. FSD 14.1.4 was taking a right out of a parking lot. There was a mail truck in the closest lane and FSD attempted to take a really wide turn around the truck and go into the far lane, but there was a minivan clearly coming in that lane. I wasn't sure which lane it was trying to get in. When it started going in front of the minivan I took over. The minivan was paying attention and braked, honked their horn, and went around me as I pulled out of their lane. I found it weird because 14 is usually way too cautious at intersections.

One of the simplest things for humans, but incredibly complex for machines, is anticipating the unpredictability of children. Here FSD rolls up in direct sun, spots the kid way before I did, and applies the brakes. But what came after stunned me. Another bike, and another, then a gap, and another bike (and a bonus scooter). At no time did FSD attempt to jump the gap between the children (even when it could have). There was no jitter or indecision. FSD just patiently waited until they all came around the corner and crossed the street. It stayed perfectly still so as not to scare the children. Just like a human would. I’ve seen a lot of amazing things with FSD, but this one really impressed me on a deeper level. As a father, I’m happy knowing more people are using Tesla FSD to keep their own kids safe and to ensure the safety of the kids on the road.

My very first FSD (Supervised) drive in Denmark 🇩🇰🥳 A lot of interesting scenarios emerged on my very first trip behind the wheel of FSD 😂 98% of the time it performed flawlessly and comfortably! But there were a few times I had to take over 🕹️ Main issue seems to be that it does not read/understand "No entry" signs ⛔️ BUT! It perfectly handled blocked roads due to road construction twice 🚧 My own car is HW3 and Anne Lundov's HW4 car has not received the update yet, so I was forced to take a Test drive instead 😆 Enjoy! 🤗

Found myself in a WILD FSD edge case this morning-- the start of a police-escorted lane closure across 4 lanes of traffic. Convoy was moving left across traffic with arrows indicating all traffic needed to flow to the right. I should have let FSD continue to monitor behavior but got nervous when it was trying to overtake the convoy on the left (which wouldn't have been possible by the time I took over but was awkward nonetheless). Traffic was also coming to a grinding halt behind me from 70+mph to 30mph. FSD 14.3.3 would have absolutely figured it out after the fact, but it didn't have the foresight to understand to FOLLOW THE RIGHT ARROW on the convoy. All in all, imo this is adequate behavior for this edge case but some polishing would be highly preferred.
