big thanks to @amypretzel for helping build the new ui and teaching me a lot about how professional mechanical engineers use these tools! we have more to share next few weeks

how does it feel to kill 100 startups in one tweet?

Having DFM checks for sheet metal and CNC built in is what makes this useful for real parts. Does it warn about stuff like bend radius before sending to a fab service?

Jake Fitzgerald's profile picture
Jake Fitzgerald10 days ago

yes it does! add /dfm before your prompt or just ask for a DFM check

A /dfm prefix is a nice touch, way easier than digging through settings. Being able to send straight to a fab service after the check closes the loop well.

Tools like this make me wonder: is there still a rational reason to go to university, beyond networking? Most of the practical knowledge and hands‑on examples are now available at home, without the fluff and bad‑mood professors.

Excited to send a sheet metal shop a part that only exists in a language model's imagination

How accurate is this?

Because the plugin connects model generation to CAD formats, manufacturing checks, and fab services, a design can move from prompt to production workflow without leaving Codex.

How much token burn for a build like this ? Does it check assembly clearances too?

There is a PR up for organic-cad and organic shape generation, still a wip

The standard-parts lookup in the repo is a nice touch. Starting with the actual screw or bearing dimensions beats designing a lovely bracket and then discovering the hardware aisle disagrees.

To me, assembly fit is where this gets really interesting. Can it check tolerance stack-ups between mating parts, or is that still a separate review?

Do you plan to have the agent specific plugins end up being the recommended install method over npx package?

Jake Fitzgerald's profile picture
Jake Fitzgerald10 days ago

Planning to support the plugins and raw skill installs. Plugins give you nice ui support within a desktop client (Codex, Claude, etc) but both are valid setups! All of the code (including the ui to view STEP files) is in a Python package cadgen

DFM 别只看生成成功:3D 打印的最小壁厚和悬垂角、钣金的折弯半径,模型给的参数经常卡在工艺边界上,出图后还是得人工过一遍。STEP 比 STL 好在还能改特征,STL 只能重来。
