That’s exactly why roadside guardrails are so important they literally saved their lives. Secondly, the driver had no idea what hydroplaning is, and honestly, I’d say most people don’t. Never slam on the brakes when you hit standing water. A layer of water forms between the tyres and the...

Rainy season, a speed of 100 and the tread of the tyres does not look very supportive.

Once, while driving in heavy rains, my car hit another car in the front even though i was maintaining a good distance & travelling at 50 kms/hour. The car in front missed a turn & suddenly stopped. I braked but the brakes felt as if almost gone, the car kept skidding a bit & hit the front car.

Yupp! Exactly it happens,No matter how much distance you make a slight brake will skid your vehicle

On Samruddhi expressway, my Gloaster did Singham while i came to first lane from middle one (turned around twice 😜😜)... Didn't hit anything, just stopped in middle lane. Divine blessings indeed... 😎

Needless to say, was raining cats and dogs, and driver with extensive USA driving experience (that's me 😝😝) was driving, while speaking on phone 😜😜. I actually noticed safety features of Gloaster helping bigtime. When i felt that, I didn't do anything rash trying to come out of this mess created due to slippery cement road surface.. 🙏🏻 The mini tempo i tried to overtake was shocked to see Singham in action, without shooting equipments anywhere in sight 😝😝. That poor guy simply parked on side strip. 😉 I restarted my journey, my phone call as if nothing happened. No wonder they used to call me James bond back in college days.... (My RE bullet 350 bike had custom curved steering back then in 1997 when one of bond movies had bike chase.) I felt like bond, James bond, when i continued my journey..! 😜😜🤣🤣

I had an accident on a flyover thanks to hydroplaning. I had touched the brakes to slow down on a slop and somehow vehicle slipped. I observed they had done patchwork and had topped the road with pure Tar and it had become too slippery due to rain on tar. I consider myself expert driver but this was very shocking and came out of the blue. I added tar+hydroplaning on my surprise MF list on the road other than Animals.

Driving a SUV with extremely high COG at 100kmph during rains. This is what happens when you get too much money with 0 civic sense or knowledge. Then people get influenced by such idiots and make the roads more dangerous for everyone around them.

Nobody taught me all these things and for some reason I find it very logical. My parents never had a car. I only had a bycycle and basic physics, traction, front vs rear brake reaction -- most I learned during childhood. When I got car, I always found it very illogical to push it

always have good tyres like continental UC 6 and increase the speed of the car if it is swerving in water the downside is if the road is full of potholes it doesn’t work

Yes same on sandy side road break should b applied very lightly just touch leave touch until car is in your control. Hard braking results in skidding and vehicle gets out of your control.

Anpadh aadmi baarish mein 100 ki speed mein kaun chalata hai?

Let's talk about the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway. Why all the emphasis on "slow down on rainy days" signs? Is the Expressway suddenly an aquarium when it rains? Do the road designers need to include something on this fancy road? Could my second-hand tyres be a factor? Is this a unique issue in Uganda? Speaking of missing things, let's discuss aquaplaning or hydroplaning – not the cool Olympic sport, unfortunately. Aquaplaning (hydroplaning) happens when a layer of water builds between your tyres and the road, significantly reducing your ability to steer, brake, and control your vehicle. Here are factors making hydroplaning worse: 1.Speed demons:(aka Subaru drivers, please tag them): Some drive like Usain Bolt on a waterslide 🏎️💨 2.Bald tyres: If your treads resemble post-lockdown hair, it's time for new ones 😬 Treads help clear water. 3. Deep puddles: Great for hippos, not cars 🦛 Water takes time to clear in heavy rain. Uganda's love for second-hand tyres: Let's face it, those treads are often unreliable. New tyres should be changed every 6 to 10 years, while old ones should be changed every 1 to 3 years. The equation is simple: rain + speed + bad tyres = potential disaster. Want to play bumper cars? Go to an amusement park, not the Expressway. How to avoid hydroplaning on the Expressway: 1. Reduce Speed: Slowing down significantly improves tyre grip. Aim for 50 to 60 km/hr. 2. Maintain Tire Health: Ensure adequate tread depth for water displacement. 3. Increase the Following Distance: Allow more reaction time. 4. Focus and Visibility: Turn on headlights and stay alert. 5 Avoid hard braking and sharp turning. If you are hydroplaning, consumer reports experts recommend taking your foot off the gas, steering in the desired direction once traction is regained, and gently applying the brakes. For Expressway guides and questions, follow Kampala Entebbe Expressway. For UNRA Updates, follow Allan Ssempebwa Kyobe, Chart. PR and UNRA_UGANDA . Discussions happen every Saturday at 9 am.
