A silent, large-scale experiment is being conducted on developing babies, and the public is in the dark. Nearly 1 in 4 middle-aged women are on antidepressants. Up to 5% of women are prescribed them during pregnancy. Never before in human history have we chemically altered the fetal brain so pervasively. The evidence is overwhelming, yet the warnings are absent. A landmark legal case against GSK over Paxil causing birth defects resulted in a billion-dollar verdict. Where there are birth defects, there is also a significant risk for Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The link between SSRIs and ASD has been evident for over a decade. The findings grow more alarming: • Mothers on SSRIs during pregnancy have a tenfold greater risk of having a child with fetal alcohol syndrome. • Canadian guidelines now state SSRIs can cause alcohol use disorder. Yet, the drug labels remain silent. We are medicalizing the human experience itself. "Depression" is diagnosed in 8-10 minutes with a subjective checklist—there is no objective test. By convincing society that normal emotional experiences are symptoms of a chemical imbalance, we have created a culture of fear around our own emotions. The result? We judge our inner lives instead of understanding them. We have not reduced the burden of mental illness; we may have increased suffering. True informed consent is a legal and ethical imperative. It is impossible when the full risks—especially to the most vulnerable—are concealed. This is based on the critical work of experts like Dr. David Healy, a psychopharmacologist and Pharma insider who turned whistleblower. Having seen the hidden internal documents as an expert witness, his testimony holds immense gravity. It is far past time for regulatory agencies to hold open panel discussions and mandate strong, clear warnings. The health of future generations depends on it.

Antidepressants: The Lifelong Sentence? How SSRIs Are Linked to Heart Disease, Suicidal Thoughts, and a Debunked Science—While Withdrawal Leaves Patients with ‘Brain Zaps’ and Permanent Sexual Dysfunction A new report in The Lancet confirms what many have feared: the pandemic didn’t just disrupt lives—it shattered mental health. Depression and anxiety in young people surged by over 50% from 2010–2019, and COVID-19 added 53 million new cases of major depressive disorder and 76 million anxiety disorders globally. In the U.S., nearly 1 in 3 adults reported symptoms of anxiety or depression last summer. The response? A 64% spike in antidepressant prescriptions for young people since 2020, with girls aged 12–17 seeing a 130% increase. But here’s the catch: Antidepressants, especially SSRIs, are now a lifelong sentence for millions. A UK study of 220,000 patients linked long-term use to higher risks of coronary heart disease, stroke, and all-cause mortality. Even the FDA’s black-box warning on drugs like Zoloft admits they can increase suicidal thoughts in young adults—the very outcome they’re meant to prevent. The serotonin theory of depression? Debunked. A landmark Nature review found no convincing evidence that depression is caused by low serotonin. Yet, Big Pharma’s marketing machine keeps pushing these drugs as the first-line solution, despite decades of questionable efficacy and mounting side effects. Withdrawal is a nightmare. Patients report "brain zaps"—electric shocks in the brain—alongside cognitive impairment and crippling anxiety. And now, a hidden epidemic: post-SSRI sexual dysfunction, where genital numbness, loss of attraction, and emotional flatlining persist even after stopping the drugs. Some never recover. Doctors dismissed these symptoms for years, blaming depression itself. Now, the European Medicines Agency has issued a black-box warning for permanent sexual dysfunction after SSRI use. Yet, in a move that defies logic, regulators are now pushing for over-the-counter antidepressants. No new clinical trials. No reckoning with the addiction, withdrawal horrors, or long-term brain changes. Just a green light to dole out mind-altering drugs like candy—echoing Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, where SOMA kept the masses docile and compliant. School shootings? Gender dysphoria in teens? Sexual dysfunction ruining marriages? The data demands we ask: Are SSRIs fueling these crises? Many mass shooters were on—or withdrawing from—these drugs. Detransitioners describe how antidepressants warped their sense of self. And sex offenders are prescribed SSRIs to kill their libido—so why are we surprised when patients lose their sexuality forever? This isn’t about denying help to those in pain. It’s about demanding transparency, alternatives, and real science. If the serotonin theory is dead, why are we still gambling with millions of lives? Why are regulators fast-tracking OTC access while ignoring the withdrawal nightmares, the permanent damage, the lack of long-term safety data? The system is broken. Pharma profits. Patients suffer. And now, they want to make it easier than ever to get hooked. We can’t stay silent.

My entire SSRI series in one video. What doctors never tell you about SSRI withdrawal. Chris Masterjohn, PhD, Founder and Scientific Director of explains why SSRI withdrawal is mitochondrial dysfunction and what to do about it. This is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. 29 million Americans and about 5-10% of the world's population are on SSRIs, which have become the first-line treatment of depression. These can cause sexual dysfunction and emotional blunting in up to half of people, an unclear incidence of sleep disruption, and a rare risk of suicidality, self-harm, and new-onset psychosis. On the other hand, 20-50% of people who go off experience SSRI discontinuation syndrome. This can involve irritability, anxiety, mood problems, crying, dread, suicidal ideation, insomnia, nightmares, excessive dreaming, lethargy, fatigue, headache, tremor, sweating, anorexia, flu-like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain, numbness, tingling, feeling like something is crawling on the skin, electric shocks running through the brain or body, rushing noises, visual traces (seeing something persist when it is no longer there, or seeing moving objects leaving illusory streaks of light behind them, etc), dizziness, light-headedness, "brain zaps," vertigo, confusion, difficulty concentrating, amnesia, genital hypersensitivity, and premature ejaculation. A closely related problem is post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD), which can cause total inability to feel the penis for males or for females the genitals and nipples, loss of sexual pleasure, weak orgasms, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and premature ejaculation. PSSD is often associated with general anhedonia, apathy, and poor mood. In this video, I maintain that the reason there are no good solutions to these problems is because we have completely misunderstood the role of serotonin and SSRIs. Serotonin's role is to help mitochondria adapt to changing demands for oxygen-based energy production. SSRIs enhance some of the mechanisms, and interfere with others. They enter the cell and stimulate independent mechanisms of mitochondrial stress adaptation, but in doing so they turn a cyclical and rhythmic pathway into a constantly stimulated one, creating mitochondrial dependence and making mitochondria vulnerable to new-onset dysfunction upon withdrawal. Once they make it to the mitochondria itself, the SSRIs act as mitochondrial toxins.
