The FGN Power Company has announced that the pilot phase of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) is nearing completion. This phase involves the deployment of 10 transformers and 10 mobile substations across various strategic locations in the Nigeria-Siemens PPI project. Kenny Anuwe, the Managing Director and CEO of FGN Power Company, reported that eight (8) power transformers have been successfully installed and commissioned in Ajah, Maryland, Apo, Okene, Ihovbor, Amukpe, Potiskum, and Birnin Kebbi. This upgrade will enhance the transmission wheeling capacity by an impressive 569.6 MW. Additionally, three (3) mobile substations are now operational in Ajah, Jebba, and Kawnar Dangora, contributing an extra 151.2 MW to the transmission capacity. Anuwe also highlighted that the transmission network will be increased by an additional 720.8 MW, with plans to commission the remaining equipment to provide at least another 500 MW by the end of 2024.

This marks the first phase of our plan to generate 100 megawatts, with 30 megawatts set to provide uninterrupted electricity to Abeokuta. Following the Federal Government’s removal of power generation, distribution, and transmission from the exclusive legislative list, Ogun State has not only passed the necessary laws but has also begun implementing this critical initiative.

STRIDES UNDER NEW POWER MINISTER, MR. JOSEPH TEGBE Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has energised a new 300MVA transformer at Katampe, Abuja. This is expected to improve transmission capacity and supply reliability within the FCT and surrounding areas. Following the failure of a 100MVA transformer in Abuja, TCN and AEDC reportedly restored electricity to affected parts of the FCT within 24 hours: a response time that many consumers would consider commendable given the scale of such faults. Also, the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) under Engr. Jennifer Adighije has revived the 450MW Alaoji Power Plant after about three years of inactivity; a potentially important addition to available generation capacity if sustainably dispatched.

It's the biggest completed battery project on Australia’s main grid, and one of largest battery projects in the world. It features 444 Tesla Megapacks and three Toshiba 500kV HV transformers, for a total of 600 megawatts of capacity and 1,600 megawatt hours of storage. It will soak up excess wind & solar power during the daytime and shift that energy to the evening peaks.

- This project is a PPP project between the Imo State Government and the Egyptian energy company Madkour Group - The substation is owned by Orashi Electrical Company Limited, formed in 2024 - The Orashi substation is located in New Owerri and is the pilot initiative for "Light Up Imo" which is supposed to bring power to all 27 Local Governments in Imo State - It reduces reliance on the national grid and allows Imo State to be energy independent and sufficient - it paves the way for 24/7 power to be established in Imo, leveraging its gas supply. Kudos to Governor Hope Uzodimma Hope Uzodimma for this initiative. We hope other Eastern Governors will copy Imo and Abia to electrify the region.

Dominion Energy recently released a new route. “No matter which route they take, it's through our property,” said Orange County resident Rebekah Henson. “To Dominion: Go away, you are taking away our home, our peace, our wonderful view. We don't want that.” The 115 mile long 765-kilovolt electric transmission line would impact up to nine counties to power data centers in northern Virginia. The line would end in Culpeper County at a proposed 88 acre substation where more lines are expected to branch out to reach other Northern Virginia counties. This week, the Culpeper Board of Supervisors sent a letter to PJM urging the power grid operator not to approve the substation. Dominion Energy told me they are only considering Culpeper County for the transmission line despite county opposition. Several residents told me it’s unfair their homes and community might be impacted because data centers hours away need more electricity.
