The B-1 escape capsule would eventually be replaced with ejection seats - 3 prototypes configured and 1 fatality. On Aug 29, 1984, a B-1A Prototype stalled at low altitude due to fuel transfer error causing aft CG shift during wing sweep. Crew ejected the escape capsule at ~1,500 ft....

On New Shepard's 23rd flight the booster's engine failed causing the capsule to trigger it's launch escape system. Luckily this flight was flying scientific payloads and not crew, although a crew would have been safe thanks to the escape system.

Interesting footage from B-58 Hustler escape capsule testing in 1962. When activated, a harness system secured the clamshell doors closed. You could either continue the ejection by firing the rocket motor or remain secure in the capsule and take a forever nap.👀

Oopsies... On March 29, 1944 B-24 42-52106 Sunshine took flak over Bolzano on a northern Italy mission. The crew headed for Switzerland but landed by error at German airfield Venegono. It came down intact and the crew was captured as the Luftwaffe took the plane. 👀

Prof. Dr. Velimir Abramović – It is impossible that the crew of Artemis II survived the Van Allen belt, because no one can survive that much radiation, nor could that capsule have such plating that could protect them from such high-intensity gamma radiation. It was a show for the masses, and the capsule with the crew was then ejected from orbit (by plane) to film it falling into the sea.
