UPDATE: Kenya's Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill 2026 The National Treasury says: · We should expect to see a Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill 2026 tabled in the National Assembly this month (February 2026) · The Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill 2026 will propose to have 0.0% PAYE rate at Kes 30,000 · The next Kes 20,000 will be taxed at a rate of 25.0% Welcome proposals, we wait to see the Bill itself for certainly. That said, some questions: · Should we take it as a given that the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill 2026 will be repealing the Kes 2,400 personal relief now that the base PAYE rate is being set at 0.0%? · Why have the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill 2026 in February & then have Finance Bill 2026 in April? · Coming in such quick succession, don't we risk legislative fatigue & poor public participation on Finance Bill 2026? · We have some good lessons around this from the quick succession that characterised the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, the Tax Procedures (Amendment) Act 2024 & Finance Bill 2025 · What will be the effective date of the measures proposed in the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill 2026? By opposing this bill, what has Congress actually achieved? * They have delayed the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill, betraying women. * By opposing the 50% proportional seat increase, they have enabled the next delimitation to be done on the 2027 Census, which will redistribute the existing 543 seats and will gravely compromise the less populous southern states. Congress and DMK will have a lot to pay for. Shame on them!

The violation of the Model Code of Conduct by the Prime Minister in the middle of the election is completely unacceptable. EC is acting as an extension of the BJP office. First, we saw manipulation of the voter list; then they attempted SIR, and now they want to control the Delimitation Commission. PM Modi is giving a different narrative, claiming that opposition parties opposed the Women’s Reservation Bill. The Women’s Reservation Bill was already passed in 2023, and we all supported it. We had asked him to implement it immediately with the existing strength of 543 Lok Sabha seats. Now, suddenly, he is claiming that the Congress and other opposition parties opposed the bill and that this is why it failed. This is not Women’s Reservation Bill; it's delimitation. That is why all opposition parties opposed it.

There was an India before this Bill. The India that comes after this Bill strikes at the very fabric of our Constitution and the intent of its makers. Today, the government is asking us to hand over a blank cheque. This Bill contains no clear mention of limits such as a 50% increase, no clarity on the basis of delimitation, and no transparent safeguards to prevent arbitrary action. It leaves open the possibility of an unfair, unjust delimitation process and places enormous power in the hands of a committee that will be appointed by the executive itself. How can this be called fair in a functioning democracy? How are we expected to trust a government that, over the past 12 years, has repeatedly pushed through draconian laws without meaningful consultation or consensus in Parliament? Laws that reshape institutions, alter balances of power, and weaken the spirit of federalism! As Chief Minister Thiru M.K.Stalin has rightly said, this is a fight we are prepared to take to the streets and to the people of Tamil Nadu. Because when faith in the parliamentary process is eroded, the responsibility to defend constitutional values must return to the people themselves. #Delimitation #TNWillFightTNWillWin
