We talk a lot about how AI is making coding easier for non-technical folks, but don't hear much about how the most elite engineers are delegating their most technically complex work. Postman is going all-in on AI! Their AI Agent Builder is live (and it's pretty powerful!) Postman's API Network has 100,000+ APIs and they just released a suite of tools for building AI Agents that can automatically discover and connect to any of these APIs. Think about it for a second: You can now build an AI agent that searches the network, discovers an API, processes its documentation, connects to it, and evaluates whether everything worked at the end of the process. This is a huge deal. Every person I know uses the Postman client to work with APIs. Now, they will have access to the AI Agent Builder, a complete suite for designing, building, testing, and deploying agents. I've built a few simple agents myself, and it's tough. The ability to discover and use an API automatically is really exciting (and a huge time saver if it works as promised!) In collaboration with the Postman team, who is sponsoring this post, I recorded a video with my thoughts about the Postman AI Agent Builder.

Old software engineering patterns are coming back because of coding agents. Dax Raad(dax), co-founder of AI coding agent OpenCode, on why DDD is becoming more relevant and less painful: “I think it's the same problem as always, which is how do you make code bases that are easy to work in, scalable, that can flex to new requirements. A lot of the old patterns for me are coming back. We've always been a big domain-driven design company. We did it in a very light way. We're now doing it in a much heavier way because we find that these, kind of boring, enterprisey patterns end up being pretty useful because you have a bunch of idiots on your team now. Coding agents are a bunch of idiots. They are going to work 24/7 and they're going to ship a lot of stuff so you need way more guardrails than you used to. What's nice is some of these old patterns we hated because they were very verbose, they produced reliable code that was modular and safe but they were very verbose and annoying to type out… you're not typing it out anymore. Now you can get the benefits of these patterns without the downsides."

I gave Nous Research Hermes agent a company brain. I've been LOVING Hermes agent as my personal assistant but haven't been able to use it for work. AI agents are powerful but they are siloed. They don’t have access to the same files, comments, versions, or decisions your team is working from. So I connected Hermes to Box. Now my Hermes agent can work from Slack, use files, comments, and decisions stored on Box as the single source of truth, and get shi* done.
