The Constitution does not expressly *guarantee* universal voting. This is intentional: we live in a Constitutional republic, not a direct democracy. The 14th Amendment specifically distinguishes the immunities of citizenship from the privileges of citizenship. Voting is a privilege & civic duty is a proper precondition for enjoying that privilege.

Voting is a RIGHT! Unless one is convicted of a felony, the right to vote can not be denied. Thanks to the 20th Amendment even WOMEN are included. One can not put impediments in the way of voters. Question is why are you afraid of people voting if you have good ideas?

Fascinating we keep getting debates on if the elections are rigged and never a solution to restore trust in that process. Why not contract private companies to create open and auditable digital voting system, encrypted to the citizen discretion to display. Add a honeypot to incentivize anyone to expose flaws.

We live in a constitutional *Republic*, not a direct democracy. I favor ending birthright citizenship for those whose parents entered the country *illegally* because we shouldn’t reward those who violate the law with the intent of exploiting the citizenship rules. That’s not what our Founding Fathers envisioned. Further, no one born in this country - whether 1st generation or 5th generation - should automatically inherit the full privileges of citizenship until they *earn* those privileges: every 18-year-old should have to pass the same civics test required of naturalized citizens, or else serve the country for 6 months in a military or first responder role, before earning the full privileges of citizenship. As our Founding Fathers envisioned, we must have skin in the game to play in the game: civic privileges come with civic duties attached. That’s not “extreme,” that’s just what it means to be a true citizen of a Republic. I favor amending the Constitution accordingly.

I’m with Carl Higbie. The authors of the 14th Amendment made it pretty clear: birthright citizenship is NOT in the text of the Amendment. It does not take a law degree to figure that out. SCOTUS failed. Congress must act. Anchors Away!

When a citizen is forced to repeatedly prove that they are a citizen, democracy itself begins to stand trial. Former Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa raises a constitutional question that deserves every Indian's attention. If Aadhaar is not conclusive proof of citizenship, PAN is not, Voter ID is not, and the Ministry of External Affairs says even a passport is only a travel document and not conclusive proof of citizenship, then what certainty does an ordinary citizen have? In a democracy, the citizen is sovereign and the State exists to serve the citizen—not to keep every citizen under perpetual suspicion. Burdening millions of law-abiding people with repeatedly proving their identity and citizenship undermines trust in democratic institutions and risks excluding genuine citizens from exercising their constitutional rights.
