AOC: President Trump—I want to be clear—not only threatened genocide, he is continuing to threaten genocide against the Iranian people. That is his main point of “leverage” in this situation. It is a war crime. It is abhorrent, and it is also illegal. Our presence right now is a crime. I personally believe it’s impeachable. But putting all of that aside, it’s a crime. No president is authorized by the Constitution of the United States to go to war without the authorization of Congress. Period. And acting on any of these threats would also be a crime.

Secretary of State Rubio did that," Congressional correspondent Lisa Desjardins said. "Now, the War Powers Act also says that presidents can only continue that conflict for 60 to 90 days. However, most presidents have ignored the War Powers Act," Desjardins added.

It is completely unacceptable that the Administration is unwilling to brief Congress on the strikes in Iran. We have to make sure this regime never acquires a nuclear weapon. At the same time, the Constitution means what it says. Only Congress has the power to declare war.

Murphy: I would remind the president that he can't take any offensive action against Iran without coming to congress first. The constitution requires him to get an authorization of military force from congress. I don't think that he'll get that authorization from this congress, because there is opposition on both the Republican and Democratic side to the United States getting dragged into another potentially disastrous conflict in the Middle East.
