The Dodgers are to blame for deferring their contracts. Their actual 2025 payroll is $550m. That’s insane and can’t be allowed, no one can compete with that. But agreed that the cheap owners need to spend way more

The older I get, the more I realize how dumb Big Cat is.

@BarstoolBigCat No, the dodgers are ruining baseball, just like the Yankees did.

@BarstoolBigCat The dodgers market is so much bigger (way more $$) than Pittsburgh’s — the only way to make this fair is a salary cap, which the players won’t ever go for. So the other major markets are the ones you need to blame — NY, CHI, MIA, DAL, SF etc. they need to do better, simply put.

Was a $2m salary with 97% of it deferred a decade out available to all 30 teams? You don't think 29 other teams would pay a $2m salary?

Why would the owners of those shitty teams want to waste money when they know the Dodgers are already so far ahead of them in talent that they’ll never even have a shot at winning a World Series?

MLB should have a relegation system. give the savannah bananas a shot

Fair point, counter argument should be if they want a salary cap there should be a floor. You cant have one team spending $500M and another spending 10% of that. There is definitely a problem but nobody has a solution that will ultimately “fix” it.

Please, whenever you mention bad owners that list needs to start with Jerry Reinsdorf. I know you’re a cubs fan big cat, but help out the other side of town and call him out. He is ruining the bulls as well.

Both can be true. There are owners who are *not* cheap who still can't keep up with Dodgers spending, since the Dodgers revenues are so much higher than all but two other clubs.

You close with a statement acknowledging that just spending a shit ton of money on a few guys won’t do anything after ranting for the opposite position. In what world do you think the Pirates are playing a competitive game with the Dodgers?

@BarstoolBigCat @BarstoolBigCat the numbers are absurd for big market teams. Baseball has a much bigger problem than cheap owners…coming from a Pirates fan who is livid every year.

I wouldn’t expect these dudes to comprehend facts, but if every team spent like the Dodgers it would lead to families paying $800 to attend a game instead of $200. No one wants that. League needs a cap AND a floor.

Agreed. And when the Padres’ spend $ somehow people complain about it that’s it’s “not sustainable.” I do think fans have a right to be a little upset about how @MLB allowed the Dodgers to defer Ohtani’s contract, especially because not every team has been allowed to do that.

Completely accurate!!!!! Deadbeat owners completely content with being parasites that feed on shared revenue are the problem

“Cheap owners” 🙄. I think people forget that business owners aren’t in the business of losing money and that ultimately the fan base has to be willing to support the expensive moves. Ball players are overpaid, and the unlimited funds is ruining smaller clubs’ ability to compete.

Dumbest take I’ve seen, this is baseball, this isn’t who can spend the most money. Those smaller market teams could never and will never compete with these big market teams regardless if they spent every dime possible. Baseball is the purest game and teams like dodgers ruined it

You’re a professional analyst. You should know the operational cost of these major league teams. None of these owners are cheap. They are running very thin margins and a lot of them got really hurt by covid.

I can’t even watch my home State team, @Rockies, bc they’re just so awful. Used to go to many games, but we’ve become a minor league team that trades all its top players to top franchises. Pathetic really. Luckily I’m a Cubs fans since childhood, so I still got them.

Rich get richer poor get poorer situation. I feel like a salary cap would insure a variety of different teams in the postseason each year. I just don’t like how every year the dodgers outshine everyone. Even if owners are being cheap there’s still the ones who don’t have the money who will fall even more behind.
