For too long, the poor were taught a terrible inheritance: keep quiet, accept whatever the government hands you, and call it survival. The EFF is in the Western Cape High Court to shatter that legacy. We are demanding that the Finance Minister’s unilateral power to adjust the fuel levy without Parliament be struck down as unconstitutional and oppressive. The EFF is fighting hard for the ungrateful people. The EFF refuse to say thank you for rising taxi fares, for unaffordable bread, for a fuel levy hiked by one man’s signature while democracy sleeps.

Today in the Standing Committee on Finance we raised three issues. 1. SARS must never again pronounce two VAT rates to run concurrently without any legislative basis. 2. Personal income tax brackets must be adjusted in line with inflation to avoid silent tax on workers who will fall in higher tax brackets due to adjustments in salary, which aren’t real increases in income. 3. We said no to the fuel levy. History must remember the EFF stood when others were silent. #ThankYouEFF

As the EFF, we were unapologetically clear from day one, that this anti-poor budget does nothing to stimulate real economic growth, it does nothing to create jobs, and above all, it completely ignores the deep and painful crisis facing the majority of South Africans. In Parliament, we put forward proposals to both the Minister of Finance and the ruling ANC, proposals that speak directly to the lived realities of our people. We made it clear that this budget must be amended to reflect a government that puts the people first.
