Every video game has done this since DOOM. It's been standard practice to help save memory and cut down on processing strain.

Good breakdown, but for people who want to know, tile based streaming has been around since the early 90's.

what is novel about partially loading in memory?

Lol. He basically explained how your perception is working wen you are moving through this plane you call reality.

Thank you. I learned something new today from my mindless browsing.

Trick behind GTA? Like this is never been used like 30 years. That is the essence of almost all open world games. You can even see this in ps1 games like Driver and Silent Hill too. That's why we have fog in Silent Hill because in Driver you can see tiles being dropped.

Yeah. Majority of these technique is very common and old technique. There are much much more new techniques these days. It is headaches to know them. Either you really want to go all the way. Or just “ignorant is bliss” and just enjoy the game.

This ain't nothing but rick and morty season 1 episode 4

What if I use a glitch to send me flying across the whole map

I remember hauling ass across bridges in Vice City only to get hit with a loading screen. Then your risk of crashing goes from 0.5% to 75%. Not really a big deal until you're bringing a nice car to Sunshine Auto or running from the cops.

Imagine if GTA 6 was designed for PC first and not poor consoles. We would have a fantasitic game.

The 1 rule that he forgets about with the backpack euphemism is what people often complain about: the act of taking out the product from the backpack. Sometimes some things are going to cause problems to put in and take out due to their size and reservation: load jitters.

@samops

That’s literally Minecraft

Ok Minecraft.

This isn’t that impressive, it's normal optimization

That’s why cars don’t spawn in front if you look backwards when driving

Nice one, intern.

Explain GTA San Andreas on PS2 tho

This is such an old technique. Anyone amazed by this must be mentally challenged

Same thing in rdr2 guys

Minecraft was doing this in 2012

This is cap. Explain the online part about it

Ayo.. I don't like being taught something without me knowing it!

Bro took GMTK’s GTA 3 video and just stole the info entirely

This is related to Window Virtualization list in JavaScript.

They can do this but Call of Duty is still 300GB?

What's his @?

Loading in assets in front of the player kind of reminds me of light cones rendering in our future in real life!

That was only gta v on Xbox 360 and ps3

This is probably how reality works too

Like Minecraft with the chunks ?
