I got this photo of a Russian Kamov Ka-52 in 1971 as it overflew the USS Saratoga in the middle of the Atlantic. It obviously uses Coaxial contra-rotating main rotors. If it's such a great idea then why doesn't the US have similar design?

Ту-95 летает с 1952 года. А ты только проснулся?

its a benefit, but this wasnt normally done to counteract tourque. there is loss through the system so its less efficient. instead, this is used when an engine is so powerful that they cant fit a prop big enough to use the power.

Live in action in Portugal

I have a windmill in my yard that both blades face the same angle.. When the wind blows the forward blade turns one way and the rear Blade turns the other way.. If I reverse one of the Blades they Both turn the same direction when the wind Blows.

As much as I appreciate AI stuff, sometimes it gives me hope for the futire to listen to a nerd yapping away.

The AI voice constantly changing accent was funny. Who did you steal this clip from before re-dubbing it?

The narrative is a huge exaggeration. Especially in the "efficiency" part. Zero to Six percent efficiency gains.

This doesn't work! You need to "straighten" the air between the 1st and 2nd propellers. See how an airplane turbine is built to understand how this is done.

Why does he start yelling

Does AI have to narrate everything? It's also too long

трюк понятен: центральный вал крутится передний винт, через шестеренки трубка крутит второй винт, молодец!

Folding-blade props are one of those "obvious in hindsight" solutions that took forever to get right. Great pickup.

Сам изобрёл?

Here come the double rotor helecoprers

Macchi-Castoldi M.C.72. 1934 World speed record for seaplanes, undefeated. 709 Km/hr. - 440 Mph.

Its awesome that it's my fellow Human being that thought out these things, I really need to level up

arriba un pèl tard
Yeah, every turboprop is contra-rotating🙄😜😜

Not really. Sort of. There was a brief and unfulfilled expectation, but props went away as jets changed everything, and superior prop design with variable pitch and turbo aspiration meant the weight, complexity and cost was not going to fly. (sorry : )

ok this is bullshit. what about an uncompensated torque of that bottom gear

Ask Rusians about K 52 and Mi 28

That's really clever Engineering! :D
