Sir I am a corn-fed, Midwestern, true-blue American, and *I* can't comprehend this. Also thoes things are going bye-bye when the first tornado of the season hits.

I'm European and indeed I cannot understand why, given the choice, people would buy a house in a place where they are effectively forced to take the car every time they step out, rather than choose a neighborhood where a variety of options (including a car) are available.
