The first Touareg had a V10 TDI. The second generation replaced it with something far less in size: a 4.2L V8 TDI, 340 PS and 800 Nm, which is actually 50 Nm more torque than the V10 it succeeded. This is also the generation that moved onto the same... platform as the Porsche Cayenne, sharing its underpinnings and several engines with Audi and Porsche - a level of platform sharing that is unusual for a VW-badged car. As a daily driver it solved everything the V10 made difficult, but lighter, simpler, far less likely to leave you searching for obscure parts. Mid-engine Audi madness came only with the early R8 V8, then the V10. A naturally aspirated 5.2-litre Lamborghini V10, paired with a gated manual in its purest form. Around 518 hp and a layout Audi had never attempted before. This was a supercar for the masses, it didn't look as flashy, it's not like a reskinned Huracan, just an Audi. Unlike later filtered, heavier supercars, this is still mechanical. Few cars show Audi taking such a risk: a brand known for saloons building a true driver-focused halo car with no compromise in character.

Mercedes built it at a time when cost and weight were secondary concerns, the brief was simply to make the best car in the world, the perfect luxury car. The S420 uses the M119 4.2L V8, 275 HP and 400 Nm, not as powerful as the S500, not as expensive as the S600, but the same platform, the same interior, and the same build quality that allows these cars to cover 400,000 km and still drive as they should. The notion that all new cars suck sort of gets debunked the second the Lexus LFA gets mentioned. One of the only supercars where Lexus did not compensate by making it a hybrid or a twin turbo six cylinder. What Toyota did instead was build an absolute masterpiece, from an engine that is extremely impressive considering it is a V10 that weighs like a V6 and is as compact as a V8, to an exterior package that is truly beautiful for a supercar without going over the top. Seeing this car for the first time at ModaMiami was amazing because of how much it stood apart next to all the fancy Koenigsegg, Czinger 21C, and Bugatti builds, not because it was wilder but because the styling and the lines are truly understated in a beautiful way. The Lexus LFA is powered by a 4.8 liter naturally aspirated V10 developed with Yamaha, producing 552 horsepower and revving to 9,000 rpm so quickly it required a digital tachometer. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in around 3.7 seconds, reaches a top speed of 202 mph, and the Nürburgring Package set a 7 minute 14 second lap at the Nordschleife. Only 500 were built, featuring a carbon fiber body and one of the most legendary engine sounds ever put in a production car.

The MK1 Scirocco was styled by Giugiaro and launched six months before the Golf it shared its platform with. For the MK2 in 1981, VW brought design in-house under Herbert Schäfer - Giugiaro submitted a proposal and it was rejected. The result was a longer, lower, more aerodynamic coupe that was 10% more slippery through the air than its predecessor, assembled by Karmann in Osnabrück throughout its eleven-year production run. The range ran from a 1.3L base model all the way to the GTX 16V - which used the same 1.8L 139 HP 16-valve engine as the MK2 Golf GTI. A coupe that shared its running gear with one of the most famous hot hatches in history, in a body that the Golf GTI never had. Produced until 1992. Never directly replaced really. This Scirocco in the video is a GT.

The idea came from the FIA’s 1987 ProCar concept, which aimed to run production looking sedans as F1 support races with minimal exterior changes but serious performance underneath. While the body had to stay true to a 25000 unit production model, the rules allowed a 750 kg minimum weight and 3.5 liter naturally aspirated F1 engines. Alfa took full advantage, building the 164 ProCar around a carbon tub developed by Brabham F1 and fitting it with a 620 horsepower V10 originally created for its canceled F1 program, sending power to the rear wheels through a manual gearbox.

The only delay you got was from the gearbox, but that's one of the few downsides. On top of that, it was still a proper luxury car. Comfortable, refined and built to cover distance. Compared to rivals, this stood out, better engine, better presence and at the nobody else did 4 door coupes. That’s what made it special.

But it was also a journey through a country I discovered in a completely different way: its cities, its people, its contradictions and its incredible energy. And yes, I had a fantastic time. That doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten the uncomfortable questions around how the World Cup is organised, or the criticism surrounding FIFA and its leadership. Both things can be true: you can love football, enjoy the people and the experience, and still question the way the game is run. This is simply my World Cup story. Compared to a modern M340i with maybe similar power, this feels slower, but this M3 is way better feeling and its a V8 M3, the only V8 M3 and the older M3's feel way way more alive.

It was repackaged and reshaped through a loophole in the same law that claims to abolish it. What you see in places like the so-called Angola prison makes that contradiction clear. The same country that speaks about global freedom and claims to police human rights abuses is still profiting from forced labor within its own system, backed and protected by its own laws. That is the reality. For Africans and people across the Global South, this is something to pay attention to. It shows that the image America presents to the world is not the full story, and it raises serious questions about how seriously its claims on human rights should be taken.
