For the first time in 46 years, cargo has today left Nairobi to Gilgil, Ol Kalou and Nyahururu via railway. 10 wagons full of fertlisers are now destined to NCPB stores in Ol Kalou and Nyahururu. This means decongestion of Nairobi-Nakuru highway and less wear and tear of the Gilgil-Ol Kalou Nyahururu Road. This means food security for our nation. The M5 is shut in both directions between junction 23 for Bridgwater and junction 22 for Burnham-on-Sea because of a lorry fire. It happened on the southbound carriageway but the road has also closed northbound due to heavy smoke- National Highways: South-West says the northbound closure is in the process of being removed. There is also congestion on local roads through East Huntspill, Bridgwater and Highbridge. Diversion routes are in place. Updates available here:

I think she fails to understand that, in this present juncture, Manipur has the lowest per capita income and the highest rate of inflation. How do you expect the state that is lowest in income to survive? We have helped in building this nation. We deserve an equal budget. In this Budget, Nirmala Sitharaman ji has talked about tourism in the whole country, but has left out the North-east completely. All our youngsters are jobless. Whenever a villager passed away, the dog would instinctively reach the bereaved home. It would also be present during the final procession and remain seated at the cremation ground until the last rites were completed. The sarpanch said that the dog’s spirit of service and sensitive nature won the hearts of the entire village. The funeral procession was attended by the local sarpanch, ward members, and a large number of villagers. Everyone bid farewell to the dog with tearful eyes. Our SWT/KWS Veterinary Units exist to alleviate animal suffering. This successful operation to save a snared elephant's trunk earlier this year is a powerful reminder of the difference they make. The bull had lived with a snare slicing around his trunk for months. Left untended, it likely would have severed his trunk. His plight was spotted when our SWT helicopter was called to shepherd him off community land, into the safety of Tsavo East National Park. In the process, our pilot noticed a poacher’s snare, cinched tight around his trunk. The SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Vet Unit rushed to the scene and, with support from our Aerial Unit, darted the patient. From there, treatment was swift and straightforward. The snare had been in place for at least three months, and in that time, the wound had completely healed over. Fortunately, a single snip of the snare was all it took to save the trunk. Despite the lasting damage, the bull's trunk will grow normally and he will be able to lead a full and healthy life. As snare victim Enkesha has demonstrated, even with holes or scar tissue, elephants can adapt to use their trunks to eat and drink without issue. To date, more than 3,800 elephants – including this bull – have been offered life-saving treatment by our SWT/KWS Veterinary Units. Mohammad El Kurd, a Palestinian from East Jerusalem who was previously named one of the Times' People of the Year, spoke today and called for the normalization of a massacre of Israelis like on October 7...
