Agreed, I think the software side is especially underserved. It’s hard to go from research to practical deployment. There’s a missing layer of a well rounded stack and usable developer experience.

this matches what breaks in practice. the models are good enough; the failure is almost always the error path — a tool call times out, nothing retries, nothing hard-fails, and the agent confidently reports success on a task it never finished. that's not research, it's plumbing.

We’re excited to welcome Animesh Garg as our new Chief Research Officer at microagi, with the team from Usable Robots joining him. He has spent most of his career working on one of the hardest problems in robotics: getting robots out of the lab and into the real world. Frontier AI now works. Hardware is becoming cheap. And the industry is finally learning how to collect robot data at scale. What’s still missing is post-training. Taking a general-purpose model and teaching it one specific job, in one specific environment, until a company can actually depend on it. In LLMs, post-training is what turned impressive demos into products. In robotics, that layer barely exists yet. A strong model is a capability. What touched my heartstrings most was watching our very first advanced general‑purpose humanoid robot complete assembly and walk off the line on its own. To me, this is not just about a smarter tool or a commodity. I hope it gains true generalization ability to take on dangerous, repetitive, or undesirable tasks, and ultimately make life better.
