Mars sometimes appears to move backward in the night sky due to retrograde motion, an optical illusion. This happens when faster-orbiting Earth overtakes Mars. As Earth passes, Mars seems to slow, stop, and move westward, although it's still moving forward in space. This "backward" motion occurs roughly every 26 months. The last one started on December 6, 2024 and finished on February 23, 2025. The next one is from January 25, 2027 to April 7, 2027. Retrograde motion puzzled ancient astronomers, who thought Earth was the center of the universe. It wasn’t until the heliocentric model (with the Sun at the center) that this illusion was correctly explained. All outer planets show retrograde motion when Earth passes them.

Last night at Whitby. No Bender. 60 seconds from an awesome night on the water. Its really difficult to get steady footage from the rib so slow motion is used a fair bit, but Im sure you'll agree its an evening most people could only dream of experiencing.

This is how fast Earth flies through the galaxy. The solar system, including Earth, revolves around the center of the Milky Way at a speed of about 230 km/s. At first glance, this seems impressive. ISRO has successfully conducted the 2nd Integrated Air-Drop Test (IADT) of Gaganyaan on today morning after the first one in August 2025! 🔥 The aim of this test was to validate the parachutes and other recovery systems on board Gaganyaan that are necessary for safely landing the Crew Module on Earth upon its return from orbit. In this test, the Crew Module, weighing in at 5.7 tons, was lifted by a Chinook aircraft and dropped from an altitude of 3 km over the Bay of Bengal near the Sriharikota coast. The Crew Module subsequently slowed itself down autonomously using a series of drogue and main parachutes, followed by a soft splashdown in the sea.

During the extraction, the vehicle struck two mines on its return route.
