There has been a mega traffic jam on Lake Baikal for the third day, nearly 100 kilometers long, with about 10,000 cars stuck, reports Baza. Some drivers have run out of food and water supplies and are asking others for help. Rescuers are delivering gasoline to those freezing and have also set up a temporary shelter for 549 people in a local school. The jam is not clearing due to irresponsible drivers driving into oncoming traffic. In some sections, drivers have been stationary for 7–8 hours. To avoid worsening the situation, truck traffic has been restricted on the highway.

Instead, it has turned into a parking lot for commercial taxis. Public roads cannot become private parking spaces. India is building the world’s highest and most challenging railway line in the Himalayas. Indian Railways is silently constructing the world’s highest railway line, much higher than China’s Qinghai–Tibet Railway "The Bhanupli–Bilaspur–Leh railway line" Stretching over 490 km through the Himalayas, the line will feature ~70 tunnels, covering more than 50% of the route length (approximately 260 km). The longest tunnel will be 27 km long. The project will also include 100+ major bridges, with the highest elevation reaching 5,359 meters near Taglang La Pass, the highest point any railway line in the world has ever reached. The project is also estimated to be one of the most expensive in Indian Railways history, currently costing around ₹1.3 lakh crore. For comparison, the 500 km MAHSR was initially estimated around ₹1.1 lakh crore. Currently, Phase 1 (Bhanupli → Bilaspur → Beri), spanning ~63 km, is under construction and expected to be completed soon, Hopefully, in the coming years, we will have a direct railway line connecting Leh.

'Rudrastra' was successfully run from Ganjkhwaja station of DDU Division. This freight train was about 4.5 km long, which is the longest freight train of Indian Railways. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said Bengaluru will have 175 km of operational metro lines by December 2027. Currently, 96 km is operational, including 19-km Yellow Line with a daily footfall of 1 lakh passengers and a 30% drop in traffic along its corridor. An additional 41 km will be opened in 2026 and 38 km, including the airport line, by December 2027. Tenders for 100 km under Phase 3 will be called next month. Phase 3 is estimated at ₹25,311 crore, with ₹15,600 crore from JICA and ₹9,700 crore worth of works to be tendered in January.

In Mumbai, a 12-18 km journey costs ₹30, yet in Bengaluru, traveling 10-15 km already costs ₹60 which is 2x the fare. Oil technology has improved a lot & most modern fully synthetic oils such as 5W-30 can comfortably last up to 10,000 km in many petrol engines ( if the manufacturer recommends that interval.) However factoring in idling in traffic & short trips 8,000 or 9,000 km is a sweet spot. With the higher sulfur fuel in our country or if your engine has high mileage 7,500 km is good. A 5,000 km interval for a car recommended at 10,000 only makes sense if you use your car under very high rpms like offroad , towing or very dusty environments.
