I very much doubt she was doing "the same job". For a start, older workers are expected to train people like her and build up a work ethic that the schools fail to instill.

Remember these are minimum rates. If you are equally good at your job compared to older people then an employer can choose to pay more.

If the junior has the 10 years of experience then yes they are doing the same job.

Typical. Kids nowadays want instant recognition and remuneration without doing the work to gain experience and expertise.

"being paid less than her older colleague despite doing the same job" but is she?

If she doesn't like it she should work elsewhere. She clearly does not, could not, have the experience of her older / better and thus does NOT deserve equal pay. Again, she doesn't have to like it. She could just fuck off elsewhere.

The fair work ombudsman exists to clarify these situations. As a restaurant manager I’m sure she was involved in the sale of alcohol which would require her workplace to pay her as an adult. This clause exists in the RIA. Junior rates have their place for under 16.. not 18
