I like the idea of a pass rusher not practicing because of a finger lol, Tampa definitely out and Flowers is really a game time decision and everyone else is playing.

🐦 Thursday rest day before the HOME opener. SAINTS at M&T Sunday 1:00 CBS. ZAY sat two straight after the hamstring that cut short 5 catches, 150 yards, and a score vs Indy. Stanley toe. Simpson groin -- watching from the side again. Hendrickson finger. Tampa knee. Not a panic sheet. It's the second look before they stamp doubtful or full-go Friday.

A common hitting flaw that is rarely corrected and can exposes certain hitters at higher levels, is “leaking” … the player’s front side is “running away” from contact prematurely. Sometimes also called “spinning off” the ball. This means energy is escaping the swing because of a chain of events that usually begins with the incorrect action of the stride foot. Correctly engaging the stride foot into the ground, called “foot-plant,” allows the body to efficiently sequence. As a result, the swing is shorter and barrel stays in the hitting zone longer. The BIG key is we have to be able to ***control our front knee*** before starting to swing. If a hitter can control their front knee and their front side a hair longer, stay behind contact, and attack the inside of the ball, it creates more whip.…(bat speed) and improves plate coverage. You might need to watch the video a couple times, because there are various ways to stride that allow the hitter to control their front knee. It is not a one size fits all action. And hitters who have sick power and want to pull the ball intentionally might actually “leak and clear” on purpose. But players who like to stay to middle of the field, might want to see what the initial movement into foot plant looks like. **** Remember, what happens to the front foot (stride foot) AFTER contact has little consequence. Often heavy torque causes it to fly open, or roll on side of foot. That’s all ok.

Jarvis Landry says after getting paid $75,000,000 and joining the Browns, he deliberately kept training like he was “dead broke” to set a standard “I played around a lot of talented players that also had a different mindset, bro. They just thought different. When you’re around like-minded people, or when you’re around people that think like that, either you’ve got to catch up or you’re going to get kicked off the ship.” “That was something that I developed, and that’s something that I still had in Miami. Miami had a little bit more of a culture. We had older players like Cameron Wake. I say his name first off the top of my head because that’s one of the leaders that was on the team. He spoke in the huddles, he spoke in team meetings and things like that.” “Then when I got to Cleveland, it was like none of that was around, literally. Everybody was looking around like, ‘Who’s going to say anything? Is anybody going to say anything?’ I didn’t say that I saw an opportunity there to go in and give a speech or whatever.” “That led from us training through the offseason. Once I got signed there, I started flying guys here, just trying to do things together, see who I’m going to work with, learning about these guys, seeing how hard they work. Do they think like I think? Showing them, ‘Yeah, I just got paid, but I’m still out here running routes in offseason training.’ Somebody working like I’m dead broke.” “So when we got to training camp, we practiced one day and guys are like, ‘my hamstring sore.’ I’m like, ‘So what have you been doing this whole time, fam?’ The next day we get the script, you see the numbers and a couple guys aren’t practicing. I’m like, ‘So why?’ ‘His hamstring is sore,’ or his quad, or his feet hurt. I’m like, ‘You could take practice off for being sore?’” “I went in the training room and the trainer explained to me about a couple guys that had some chronic issues, mostly linemen. The other shit, I’m like, So what?’ He’s like, ‘We don’t want to, it’s too early to get guys hurt.’ That kind of ticked me off because my hamstrings hurt too. My hip flexors hurt too. My feet hurt too.” “That was kind of what led to me giving the ‘weakness is contagious speech’. Bro, I can’t be great that way. If every time I feel resistance or pain, if I always just pull back from it to try to feel better, I’m not going to get past what I need to get past to try to be great.”

You literally are an award-winning p*ssy eater. Give us the tips. Like, not... not me personally, but the men out there. I have a lot of men watching and listening to my show. Dr. Tara: Or... or they're young and they don't know what to do and they're not super confident in giving head to... to women. Um, can you give them three, let's say three tips for pussy eating? From an award-winning pussy eater. Will Lavine: The... the very first thing is patience. Guys, stop trying to rush this because you want to get your dick sucked. It needs to not be a chore. The reason I believe I am good at it is because I fucking love it. Like, I love it. I am orally fixated. Like, you... there's nothing you can tell me that would make me stop eating p*ssy. And the thing is, what I find when I speak to some women is that guys are just... they... meh, two seconds, and then they're like, "Now you do me." Take your time. And it's all about foreplay. Tease the erogenous zones behind the ear, behind the knee cap, armpits, like everything and just make it an experience. And then the waterworks start, and then go down and do it like you really want to fucking do it. Don't do it because you're like, "Ah, you know, I'm doing it because she wants it." Learn to love it. Because I tell you something, if you get it right, you will get anything and everything that you want, right? So, patience is one thing. I think another thing is... don't get deterred if the person isn't coming straight away, right? Every woman is different. Every woman's vagina is different. Dr. Tara: It can still be pleasurable when we're not coming. Will Lavine: Exactly! Well, that's one of the other points it's a journey. It shouldn't just be, like, the end goal, right? Just enjoy the actual journey aspect. But I would say, so if it's not happening straight away, try things, right? Try using your fingers. And maybe even just do some Googling. Like, most men know about the G-spot, but they don't know about the A-spot, right? The A-spot is a... is a, like, a game-changer. And like, maybe go side-to-side as opposed to front-to-back. On the clit, go left-to-right, go around. You don't always have to go straight for the clit. Try licking the hood. Try maybe using your teeth, but not hard like a brush. Come back every so often and admire the pussy that you're looking at. Blow on it. Like, there's all these little things, but... Dr. Tara: Blow on it! Will Lavine: Every... every woman reacts differently to different things. Listen to your partner.

Rio Ferdinand asks Steven Gerrard why Liverpool have only signed two players despite struggling last season. 🎙️ Rio Ferdinand: “Stevie, Liverpool struggled last season. The squad looked short in key areas, injuries exposed them, and now they’ve only brought in two players. What do you think has really happened?” 🗣️ Steven Gerrard: “What has happened? The board have completely underestimated what’s needed. That’s what has happened.” “You cannot watch your team struggle over an entire season, identify the weaknesses, and then behave as if two signings will magically solve everything. Football doesn’t work like that. Your rivals are improving while you’re standing still.” “This club has some of the highest expectations in world football. Liverpool aren’t supposed to be hoping the same players suddenly become five years younger or that everything clicks by luck. That’s not planning that’s gambling.” “If the board genuinely believe two signings are enough after everything we watched last season, then they’re fooling themselves. You don’t rebuild an elite team by doing the absolute minimum.” “Liverpool supporters spend their money, fill Anfield every single week, travel across Europe, and back this club through everything. They deserve ambition. They deserve a board that attacks the transfer market with the same hunger the fans show every weekend.” “The frightening part is that everyone could see what this squad needed except the people making the decisions. That’s unacceptable for a club that claims it wants to compete for every major trophy.” “If Liverpool fall behind again next season, don’t point the finger at the manager or the players first. Ask why obvious problems were left unresolved. Elite clubs don’t wait until a crisis gets worse before acting.” “This football club was built on ambition, not caution. Liverpool should be setting the standard, not watching rivals strengthen while convincing themselves that doing less is somehow enough. That’s not the Liverpool I know.”

In a busy OPD, chorea is usually not missed because it is rare. It is missed because it looks like restlessness. The patient is sitting in front of you. A finger moves. Then the wrist. Then the shoulder. Then there is a small facial movement. Nothing seems dramatic. But watch carefully. The important thing is this: The next movement is not like the previous one. It changes in timing. It changes in direction. It changes in distribution. There is no fixed rhythm. There is no same movement repeating again and again. That is when I start thinking of chorea. I remember it this way: Tremor repeats. Chorea keeps changing. Now don't rush into a detailed examination. In OPD, five simple things are enough to recognise the phenomenology. 1. Just watch Keep talking to the patient. Watch the fingers, face, shoulders and feet. Mild chorea may simply look like fidgeting. 2. Ask the patient to stretch both hands forward And wait. Not for two seconds. Small irregular movements may start appearing in different fingers, wrist or shoulder. 3. Look for apparently purposeful movements This is a beautiful feature of chorea. An involuntary movement may get converted into touching the face, adjusting the clothes or changing posture. So what looks voluntary may actually have started as chorea. 4. Ask the patient to keep the tongue out The patient may bring it back repeatedly despite trying to maintain it. 5. Test sustained grip Instead of a constant grip, you may feel tightening and loosening. This is motor impersistence. The classical bedside description is the milkmaid grip. Then make the patient walk. A small extra step, shoulder movement, hand movement or sudden change in posture may get mixed into an otherwise normal gait. The important point is that chorea is not one particular movement. It is a pattern of unpredictability. Irregular. Non-rhythmic. Non-repetitive. Moving from one body part to another. And once I am sure that the movement is chorea, only then do I ask the next question: Why does this patient have chorea? Acute or chronic? One side or both? Drug related? Metabolic? Autoimmune? Structural? Genetic? In a busy OPD, don't begin with the disease name. First spend 30 seconds watching the movement. #NeuroX #MedX #Chorea

People with weak cores struggle to stabilize their bodies when they walk. Every step you take sends a little punch up your leg into your hip and lower back. Planks with one or more support points removed to expose this weakness. Use these 12 exercises to strengthen your core: 1 - Bird-Dog (0:06) 3 x 10/side Beginners start with this exercise because removing two support points with your knees on the floor is easier. The goal is to straighten the opposing arm and leg. A client wobbled when she removed her two support points today, which humbled her. 2 - Front Plank with Leg Lift, Elbows (0:15) 3 x 10/side The second plank involves lifting one leg at a time. Being on your elbows is easier than your straightened arms, so I'll first have people familiarize themselves with this position. Lift your leg as high as you can without swinging too much. Hold at the top for a few seconds to increase the burn. 3 - Front Plank with Arm/Leg Lift, Elbows (0:20) 3 x 10 The third plank resembles the Bird Dog, except your knees are off the floor. Straighten the opposite arm and leg at the same time, and hold. You might struggle to reach a full lengthening, so do your best and practice. Removing one hand off the floor also strengthens your shoulder blade muscles. 4 - Front Rotation Plank, Elbows (0:28) 3 x 10/side The fourth plank engages different abdominal muscles with the rotation. Your arms should point toward the ceiling, something beginners might initially struggle with. 5 - Push-Up Plank (0:34) 3 x 10 The fifth plank is excellent for building upper body strength at home. You are bound to break a sweat and work your chest and triceps. I've had many clients struggle to do more than one rep. 6 - Spider Plank, Elbows (1:01) 3 x 10/side The sixth plank improves your hip mobility as well. You want to open the leg and bring your knee to hip level while keeping in the air. 7 - Lateral Raise Plank (1:09) 3 x 10-20/side The seventh plank is done in a push-up position with your arms straight. There is now more weight on your arms, making it harder to stabilize when you remove a support point. My client tried this variation and had to regress to the Bird Dog because she couldn't support herself. Work your way up to 20 reps/side for extra posture gains. 8 - Toe Taps, Straight Arms (1:22) 3 x 10/side The eight plank has you lifting one leg toward one side and touching the floor with your toes. The contact is brief - You're tapping, not resting. 9 - Mountain Climbers with Twist (1:29) 3 x 10/side The ninth plank is a twist on the classic mountain climbers exercise. You lift one leg and bring it toward the opposite elbow, then repeat on the other side. Increase the speed to add a cardio component, but ensure you can first go through the full range of motion. 10 - Arm/Leg Lift Plank, Straight Arms (1:42) 3 x 10 The tenth plank is the final evolution of the Bird Dog in this series. Straighten your opposite arm and leg, and hold for a few seconds to increase the burn. You can also hold the lengthened position for an extended period, like 30 to 60 seconds. 11 - Plank Jacks (1:54) 3 x 30-60s The eleventh plank is a variation of the classic Jumping Jack. This dynamic exercise adds a cardio component to your core workout. Shuffle both feet toward the side, then jump back to the starting position, Ensure you keep your hips aligned with your head and shoulders. You want to avoid your lower back crashing below them and potentially hurting yourself. 12 - Knee to Elbow Plank, Straight Arms (2:01) 3 x 10/side This series's twelfth and final plank requires the most stability and mobility. Most people are unable to reach their knee to the elbow. Enjoy practicing this one; you will feel stronger after three full sets. // Planks with one or more support points removed are excellent for building a more stable posture when you move. They can be done anywhere with enough space. Progress through the twelve variations in this series and watch how your core strength improves. Enjoy!

A sneak peek from an analysis thread that will be dropping later. Wednesday's second goal - not appreciated for the move and the play. 20 passes, patient, controlled play. A look at the freezes 1: shows our change of shape in the second half - looking much more like Wednesday of the last 18 months. 433 build up, rotation with Svante moving out to false full back with Lowe going high and Kobacki coming in and looking for space between the lines with Lowe. 2: After patient play, Svante picks it up at false left back, Koback holding space between the lines - this is a key change from the first half - 3: rotation between Kobacki and Lowe, with Lowe now holding the space in the box - between the lines. You then see a ladder movement pattern between Baz, Kobacki and Lowe - runs from the ladder with the lay off into space. 4: Picking up Cadz for the finish. He knows the space he is going to attack, as he attacked the same space to disrupt for the first goal. But timing is key, he has to come onto the ball to finish on one touch, so holding that initial position is key. 5: Cadz holds to see the weight of the pass into McNeill, as he can play the cross first time, Cadz starts the move across as the defenders drop, picking up the yard between the lines A great goal from a side who have spent no money, have about 10 fit senior players, have had little pre season, dont regularly get paid, and, apart from 3 of them, none of which were first team starters at the end of last season. I think Henrik was a little guilty of going too defensive and rigid in the first 2.5 games, but these players can play, and the youth, McNeill, Cadz, Kobacki, need to be given the freedom to play rather than being shackled in a rigid system. More to come later

TRANS TAKEOVER: Five 'trans women' dominate female volleyball game We went to a college female varsity volleyball game… and a 'sausage-fest' broke out! FIVE men, pretending to be women, were on the court. Why? Just when you thought transanity couldn’t get any worse… Last Wednesday, Rebel News was tipped off that the Centennial Colts were hosting the Seneca Sting in a female volleyball contest in Toronto. But not all the players were actually biological females… Indeed, we were stunned to find out that no fewer than FIVE men were pretending to be women (three on Seneca; two on Centennial.) At times it was hard to watch. The men were definitely the dominant players on the court – especially when it came to spiking the ball. Indeed, our volleyball insider told us that the situation is so dire that it is no longer safe for biological women to compete. Our source, who wishes to remain anonymous given the scourge that is cancel culture, stated the following: “Recently, there have been two major head injuries to female volleyball athletes in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) caused by transgender men [‘transwomen.’] The first injury, on November 12, 2023, was a concussion caused by C.L. Viloria who plays the middle position for Centennial College. During a game at Centennial College vs. La Cite Collegiate, Viloria attacked the ball with heavy force and hit a La Cite volleyball player in the head. The second injury, on January 22, 2024, was a concussion caused by a transgender woman, Franz Largadas. During a game at Seneca College vs. La Cite Collegiate, Largadas attacked the ball with heavy force and hit a La Cite player in the head. In the 2022-23 season Franz was listed on the Seneca College men’s volleyball team roster and is now on the women’s volleyball team roster this year. In both instances the players had to be substituted off the court. Although injuries do occur in the sport, the sheer force of a man’s volleyball attack is much more powerful than one of a biological women’s force. Currently, there are six transgender men in the OCAA. Five of which are not on any gender-affirming hormone therapy or have not had surgical gonad removal. There is no current policy in the OCAA that is listed publicly on their website about eligibility of transgender women.” Indeed, apparently the OCAA is fine if a man identifies as a woman or a woman identifies as a man – and presumably, we all identify as lobsters… It’s “human rights” accommodation, you see. Despicable wokeness… Almost as rotten was the fact that staffers at Centennial College were clearly trying to cover up this grotesque charade of men playing against women. Rebel News employees were continually harassed, our cameras were blocked, and at one point, security guards told us we had to leave because we were causing “a disturbance” in the stands. It was trumped up rubbish, of course. Perhaps these security guards are aiming for a gig with the RCMP? We held our ground and continued to observe the travesty occurring on the court. It wasn’t pretty… nor fair. The best-of-five series eventually concluded with Seneca winning three games to one; no surprise there given that the Sting had three male players and Centennial only had two. Meaning Centennial was literally “outmanned.” We tried to scrum Largadas and Viloria post-game, as well as the other fake female players: Ara Telan, Jess Garcia, and Jaque Ronquillo. All of them were tight-lipped, as were their biological female teammates (don’t want to be accused of “transphobia” after all…) And for the crime of asking insensitive questions, we were threatened by security guards that we’d be “trespassed” if we did not leave the venue immediately. Again, much like rugby and swimming, men pretending to be women are destroying female sports although you would never know that if you got your news exclusively from the mainstream media. These taxpayer-funded stenographers wouldn’t dream of offending their trans-happy sugar daddy Justin Trudeau, so MSM outlets never cover this nonsense. But as these gender-bending grifters continue to gut female sports, we pose the question yet again: where oh where are the feminists? Or are modern day feminists okay with misogyny in the name of diversity, equity and inclusion?

Full-speed Practice #3 in the books for the 49ers. Highlights... 🏈Great battle between Renardo Green and Mike Evans on a nice deep pass from Brock Purdy. Green won with the PBU. Green: "A dawg recognizes a dawg. So we're going to go at it and sharpen each others' swords." 🏈Renardo Green spoke at length about how much Kyle Shanahan's belief in him has elevated his confidence. Seems that some totally misread the brief Seattle "benching" 🏈Another CB highlight: Jack Jones INT'd Mac Jones on rollout jump ball to Jacob Cowing. Jones has been a spark plug this camp 🏈It was the De'Zhaun Stribling and Demarcus Robinson show at WR today. Stribling is eminently impressive physically — just really hard to cover with his traits. Robinson is a reliable vet whose roster stock only increases with Ricky Pearsall still dealing with last season's PCL injury 🏈Darrell Luter Jr. (final year of rookie deal) did have a nice PBU vs Robinson 🏈Punt returners... -Jacob Cowing -Jordan Watkins -Junior Bergen -Will Pauling -Wesley Grimes Cowing had a couple catches today and a first down on a reverse but has not been overly productive on offense. He's the 49ers' shortest WR. His ticket to the 53 might be through that PR position 🏈Jaden Dugger, the rookie LB with the 7-foot wingspan, is a LONG strider. Nice range on a throw to the flat today 🏈Mac Jones is constantly funny. Hit Patrick Taylor Jr. on a swing pass vs what might've been busted coverage and acted like the TD won the Super Bowl with his arms outstretched 🏈Shanahan was again on the field for a bit. Former safety Raheem Morris joined him and John Lynch watching from that centerfield spot 🏈Brock Purdy and his wife, Jenna, announced that their second child is on the way this morning. Congratulations!

I risk telling this story so please, don't come after me because I did no harm to anyone or property, lol. I made sure to be respectful. This was years ago too. Below is the video I took of the story I'm about to tell. I muted the sound because I sound like an idiot, lol ☘️ *Disclaimer* DO NOT DO THIS! I DO NOT ENCOURAGE ANYONE DOING THIS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS One evening, I'm walking around ND campus with a friend because it's beautiful out there (duh) and I make my way near the stadium as I usually do when I go for a walk on campus. I look through the gates just to peer down at the field, but then I notice a few people standing down on the field. The lights are off so I can't really see who, but definitely did not look like players or staff. So I think to myself... How did they get down there? That's when I look over to my left and notice the left most gate on the North side entrance is unlocked and just barely open! I weighed my options because I knew I wasn't supposed to go down there, but against my better judgement, I entered. Up to this point, I had never done a stadium tour so this is a part of the stadium I have never touched. This is where the video begins. So after getting through the gate and I freak out over how awesome this is and how nervous I was about getting caught, I slowly make my way down the tunnel to the field. It was incredible🥹 Everything looks bigger from field level too Once I initially take in the fact that I am standing at the entrance of the greatest stadium in the world, I decide, against my better judgement again, to walk out to mid field and take it all in. This is where the video ends. Off camera, I did run a 40 yard dash for the heck of it and I think it was close to a 4.3 😉 (more like a 5.3). Then I left! Took a small handful of field beads from the 50 yard line to remember the moment which I keep stored in a little ziplock bag Overall incredible experience as a fan though a horribly stupid thing to do. 10/10 glad I did it. 10/10 would never do that again Anyways, thanks for reading my little story on a Wednesday! Go Irish!☘️

Rory McIlroy said it, but no one is paying attention, especially those from major golf organizations and the PGA Tour board At the Valero Texas Open pre-tournament Wednesday interview Rory McIlroy said: “It will be really interesting to see how the major championship numbers fare compared to the other bigger events because there’s an argument to be made if the numbers are better and you’ve got all the best players in the world playing, then there’s an argument to say ‘OK, we need to get this thing back together.’ “But on the flip side, if the numbers aren’t as good, it’s an argument to still say we need to put everyone back together because people are losing interest in the game even if they don’t want to tune in to the four major championships.” The Masters final round ratings came out today and there is a reported 20% drop in TV viewership from last year’s final round. Earlier in the week ESPN reported that it had its largest two-day average (3.4 million viewers) for the first and second rounds of The Masters tournament since 2018. Coincidentally the first-round leader of the tournament was @b_dechambeau , Tiger Woods was back and playing decent (the first two rounds) and world #1 Scottie Scheffler was one shot back from DeChambeau. At the end of the second round DeChambeau was tied for the lead with Scheffler, and Tiger Woods made the cut. No wonder ESPN had good viewership numbers for the first two rounds. A LIV Golf player was tied for the lead with world number #1 Scottie Scheffler after the second round and Tiger Woods made his 24th consecutive cut in The Masters, a record for major championships. Then everything went downhill from there. At the end of the third round DeChambeau had faded to 5th place, 4 shots behind the leader Scheffler and at that point everyone had Scheffler as the tournament winner, which he won on Sunday. Scheffler played wonderful golf and dominated the last round of the tournament, he won by 4 shots over a PGA Tour player playing in his first ever major championship and 7 strokes over a group of Tour veterans. LIV Golf players Cam Smith and DeChambeau finished in a tie for 6th place, 9 shots back of the winner. The tournament was decided early in the final round, there were no back nine roars, and no one really threatened Scheffler’s lead. In the past when Tiger Woods had those dominant tournaments the TV ratings did not suffer. On the contrary, sometimes they increased. There are four factors for the drop in TV ratings: 1. The lack of charismatic players at the top of that leaderboard, starting with the eventual winner Scottie Scheffler and followed by a Tour rookie with a wonderful game but not much personality. Scheffler is playing the best golf in the world and is the undisputed world #1 but as we say in Spanish, he is a “huevo sin sal” (a boiled egg without salt), his game is awesome, but even with all the push from the golf establishment he doesn’t have the charisma or the “star power” of a Woods, McIlroy or DeChambeau to name a few. 2. All the analysts gave the tournament to Scheffler at the start of the week and once he had the solo lead after the third round it was over for the viewers. They had been hearing all week that Scheffler was going to win it, and the golf media did not really push anyone else. 3. The lack of LIV golfers within close distance of Scheffler like it happened on the first two rounds, and CBS not showing much of those LIV players closer to the lead on Sunday. Four LIV players finished in the top 12 but LIV Golf fans saw little of them on TV. CBS ignored the LIV fans while ESPN was showing plenty of LIV players since Wednesday’s par 3 contest, big mistake by CBS! 4. Golf is divided! Like Rory said, “we need to put everyone back together because people are losing interest in the game.” That losing interest translates to 20% less on the PGA Tour and now 20% less on the final round of a major that is considered the biggest draw. Just a couple of weeks ago the women’s college National Basketball Championship game had almost twice as many viewers as The Masters final round. Now they will try to spin the bad ratings numbers with streaming app numbers, but we have been hearing for three years that streaming numbers does not count. For them, suddenly, streaming numbers are valuable! What the major golf organizations should do is stop the pettiness, move the egos to the side, ACCEPT that your industry is being disrupted (it was there for the taking, but you guys were asleep on the wheel), listen to what McIlroy and Jon Rahm Rodriguez have to say, and instead of dividing it further, get together in a room and solve this problem at ONCE (not in a year or two to see what happens or to wait for other investments like the TGL to get off the ground), do it for the good of the game! A lot has been said about the players greed and the money talks, but the major golf organizations and its leaders (Ridley, Tiger, Whan, Waugh, Slumbers, Kinnings, Monahan/Herlihy, et al.) are the greediest and most power hungry of them all, and are doing a disservice to the game of golf.

After the Spain and France game, I tweeted this: “Collective quality outperformed individual quality.” This was just a sense. It was a feeling after the game that I quickly put into words, but I didn’t have any evidence for it. I didn’t have anything other than the feeling that I got from watching the game. So I decided to go into FIFA’s Training Centre and look up the match reports to see if I could find anything that would lead to the conclusion I had: that Spain were collectively better than France. At a glance, the answer was no. Other than expected goals, pretty much everything was around the same: complete passes, pass completion, possession percentage and ball progressions. If you look at the line breaks, you’ll see that France were actually a little bit higher, which makes sense because France typically like to play a little bit more vertically. However, there is one statistic that does show what I felt: offering to receive. France had 329 total offers made, distributed fairly evenly throughout the field, and 114 total offers received. Spain, on the other hand, had 438 total offers made. They made 236 offers in the middle third and 275 offers inside the shape. That is where the numbers really begin to differ. As FIFA defines it, an offer to receive is an off-ball movement that shows intent to support the player on the ball, either to maintain possession or progress the ball. Spain were constantly providing their teammates, through proximity, through closeness, and through angles and lines of support, an option to continue playing. That shows that, in moments when Spain have the ball, there are constantly three, four or five players moving and providing an option to continue to maintain possession. Spain play together. The player on the ball is rarely left alone to solve the moment through their individual quality while everyone else watches. There is an option, an exit plan, some way out in case they need it. Secondly, when we think about this Spanish style, we often think about one touch, two touch, pass, pass, pass. What we often fail to realize is that these players have so much ability on the ball. Even a right back has the quality to beat a player, get out of a press and continue the attack. Playing collectively does not mean removing individual quality. Their individual quality allows the collective to continue playing. Then there are the speed-up moments. Spain can maintain possession, move France, slow the game down and continue offering support, but when the moment to go forward appears, it is time to go forward. They recognize that moment of verticality and they accelerate. Then, if the possibility disappears, they slow down again and continue playing. There is another element of Spain. Once they have moved France back into their final third, they create these structures where they basically suffocate you. Any time the ball pops out, there are players ready to defend and ready to win the next ball in order to keep it going. The structure, the organization and the roles allow them to stay pressing, keep playing together and keep having the ball. Lastly, there is this type of football that I call football from the plaza, fútbol de plaza, where you learn to attack, dribble, pass and play in tight spaces. You learn these interactions and these one-two combinations, but you don’t learn them through the repetition of patterns. You learn them through doing it for your entire childhood in these tight areas. It is play, pass and go, play and go, constantly finding the next interaction and then finding that moment of verticality. That whole sequence shows exactly why Spain are Spain. To summarize, they are constantly offering their teammates support. My initial feeling that collective quality outperformed individual quality came from watching Spain play together, always offering options to the player on the ball rather than watching the player on the ball do something with their individual quality. They offer an option, an exit plan, some way out in case it is needed. The players are also able to escape individually when the collective solution is not immediately available. They recognize the speed-up moments and, when they find themselves in moments where they can go forward, they go vertical. Then they suffocate you through the structure and organization that allow them to win the ball again and keep playing together. And that last piece—the forward pass, play and go—is the kind of thing you get a lot from 3v3, 4v4 and 2v2 games. All in all, fantastic. So much fun to watch the Spanish team and so much fun to see all of their style essentially culminate into one match and, in this case, into one goal.
