"The reason why I started golf was because my dad stopped playing me one on one on the court, so I needed to find something else to beat him in," Jalen Brunson tells me. It's all part of an ever-growing love story between basketball and golf, LeBron among the... show more

LeBron James on how he’s started to grapple with the emotional side of knowing that the end is near: “I think it’s having the realization that there’s an end to everything, you know, and my favorite basketball player of all time and my inspiration growing up was Michael Jordan. It was an end for him. So, if it was the end for one of the greatest ever to play the game of basketball that I’ve ever watched play basketball, then it’s inevitable. It’s going to happen to all of us.” (Via Boardroom)

Ian Poulter was asked about his son, Luke, on Thursday, who's watching dad this week at LIV Golf New York. Gave a really cool answer about watching Luke's success and how nice it was to play well in front of him. "He's on an amazing trajectory: Top 10 in the world, playing great golf, plays golf courses that are exceptional. So he doesn't come and watch me that often. "I kind of had to put a round in today and just show him that Dad's not done yet. It's great. I love having the family come out and watch, and it inspires me to keep playing well."

(Can you kind of summarize the 5-1 trip?) Austin Reaves: "It was great. Luka [Doncic] scored a lot of buckets." Luka, out of frame: "I beat him in one hole yesterday in golf..." Austin: "He did actually. He beat me in one hole yesterday. He made bogey, I made triple bogey...." (Impressive since Luka just recently started playing golf and you've been playing for many years?) Austin: "I let him win. It's a confidence thing. We need him to be at his best at 7 o'clock at night so."

“Jim started bugging me to play something very basic, very primitive on my drums. Finally I gave in and started playing the dumbest 4/4 beat I knew, and Jim began singing: ‘Five to one, one in five, no one here gets out alive.’ ‘What does five to one mean, Jim?’ I asked. ‘That’s for me to know and you to find out,’ Jim said.” -John Densmore

Michael Jordan gets completely honest with Stephen Curry about why he's so obsessed with golf. "I kind of got into golf uh mainly because from a competitive standpoint to me it is the hardest game to play absolutely." "I can always respond to an opponent a defensive guy offensive guy whatever but in golf it's like playing in a mirror and you battling yourself consistently to try to get Perfection." "For a competitive person like me this is what keeps me sane you know because when I walk away from the game of basketball... that was enough to keep my competitive juices working."

LeBron James on people saying for his decision to join a team has to be where he can play golf year-round: “I love golf, I really do. But golf is a sport that you can play for the rest of your life. Back to the first question that you asked when I first came up here when the end of basketball when it gets to that point, you know. So, as I think about my decision, understanding, you know, well, if I’m in a cold city, if I’m playing on the East Coast, and now the golf course closed in November compared to if I’m in the South and they never closed. Listen, my main focus while I’m playing the game of basketball is to keep the main thing the main thing. And I’ve always have done that. You know, I’ll find a golf simulator if I’m in the cold for sure.” (Via Boardroom)

Steph Curry on the possibility of playing with LeBron James: “I’d say more so I’m interested to just play golf with LeBron. We’ll handle the basketball stuff, but I want to see the golf LeBron free agent. He’s out here really grinding on the game. But I’m sure we obviously would love to play together. I mean, hopefully it happens. But he’s deserved the opportunity and the right to take his time with the decision.”

Stephen Jackson on why playing for Coach Pop was the best thing for him: "I love Pop man, he mean everything to me. Not only did he give me an opportunity to be on a championship team and to be part of a championship organisation. But he taught me how to be a professional, he taught me how to be a man. And starting my career off, you know my first couple of years in San Antonio, is the main reason I played 14 years. Because I learnt so much about myself, about the game.. I owe all that to Pop man and I pray for him daily, and I just hope one day you know soon, that I can see him and hug him and tell him how much I appreciate him.. When it all comes down to it, the opportunity that he gave me and believing in me to start me half way during the season, and to finish that season off as NBA champions, that meant the world to me man and I owe everything to Pop." #GoSpursGo #PorVida

After Rory McIlroy’s comments about Bryson DeChambeau at The Open, Scottie Scheffler was asked ahead of the 3M Open if he thinks rivalries are good for golf: “I think golf's different in a sense of a lot of other sports because my biggest rival week in and week out is the golf course that we're playing. I mean, I could never stop somebody from doing anything in golf. I felt like when I played basketball there would always be rivalries in basketball because you're going to play defense against a person and that is much more personal in a sense like because I'm actively trying to stop -- like if you and I were going to go out and play one-on-one, like it would turn into a rivalry because I'm actively trying to stop what you're doing, but in golf, we're always competing against ourselves on the golf course. “I've never been a big fan of personal jabs. I don't think that rivalry is a big thing in golf just because, like I said, my biggest rivalry week in and week out is the golf course.” PGA Tour 3M Open

Maria Jose Marin had an incredible answer when asked by Brentley Romine about the relationship with her dad. "He's always been my role model. He's been by my side since I started playing golf. He was the one that taught me the love for this game. "He decided this year that he can't be on the bag. He had the experience with me last year. He said, you need someone that knows. I love you with all my heart, but you need someone that knows how to handle a tournament of this level. I think it was one of the most beautiful decisions that he could have ever made because he was totally selfless. He was like, I know that you need someone else, but I'm going to be there supporting you."

If I had to pick one player to build around for a single elimination game, it's Jalen Brunson and it isn't close. The Spurs had Wemby, home court, and 19,000 people convinced the series was coming back to New York. Brunson dropped 45 with an injured shooting hand on all of them and closed it in five. 11.2 points per game in the fourth quarter of the NBA Finals. The highest since the league started tracking it. Nobody else has cracked 10. LeBron, Curry, Durant, Jokic, none of them. When the margin disappears and everybody's watching, he doesn't shrink. He hunts. That's why he's Finals MVP.

"I respect everybody that says that I'm the worst thing for golf or I'm the best thing for golf ... I'm so focused on what I can do for the game that somebody saying something online or to me personally in my face is not going to distract me from the mission that I have." Love him or hate him — Bryson DeChambeau doesn't care either way.

How I went from poker to sports betting 🎰➡️🏈 It all started in the poker world. I was playing in the so-called “Molly’s Game” when a guy sent me $1 MILLION in crypto just to get access to my network. We hopped on the phone and he told me: “You can make more money betting sports than you could ever imagine making playing poker.” I basically laughed. At the time, I was making $10M+ a year playing poker and was one of the best players in the world. Why would I walk away from that? He told me, “Work with me. You’ll see.” So I took the risk. I got access to massive private sports betting accounts, started putting serious money to work, and before long we were making millions every month. Eventually, I realized I was making so much more betting sports that I pretty much stopped playing poker completely. Last year, I cleared $50M+. This year, my goal is $100M+. Safe to say, taking that phone call changed my life. Walking away from an industry where I was already one of the best in the world to start something completely new wasn’t an easy decision. But sometimes the biggest opportunity of your life requires you to walk away from something you’re already great at. Greatest risk I ever took. 🎯
