The Sameer Project x Translating Falasteen (Palestine) has 53 full-time team members on the ground in Gaza. This team has shown determination and consistency for over a year now. Our work changes everyday and includes huge risks. The team members would risk their lives to deliver water and food... to the most underserved areas like Shujaiyah, Jabalia, Beit Lahia & Rafah. Losing loved ones is a constant and the whole team lost their homes but despite their losses, they are focused on serving the community. The Sameer Project team in Gaza and abroad doesn’t feel like a work project but rather a family that’s serving its community. Our whatssap groups are full of jokes and funny stickers. We’ve cried and laughed together, challenged each other, and at times even fought with each other. And that only got us closer. As a thank you to the ground team, they got care packages that included 5 kilos of vegetables: tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, peppers & eggplants (sourced from local farms). The package cost $51. The Refaat Alareer camp cleaners Saher & Karam got an extra 3 kilos of vegetables each. This cost $2,776. The initiatives team also got multivitamin packs ($9.3 each) and 5 packs of peanut butter for protein ($12.5 for 5 packs). All our projects require physical power and working in the heat, which is extremely difficult during a genocide and a famine. For 30 team members, the cost of the multivitamins and peanut butter was $654. With vegetables, the total cost $3,430. Thank you for helping the helpers and we hope to keep serving our community. Nearly half a million people remain in the North of Gaza. A big part of mutual aid work is survival work and providing basic necessities. At the Sameer Project we find joy to be a necessity and a tool of resistance. Each family got one kilo of a variety of traditional Palestinian sweets including namora, kunafa and mabrooma. Yesterday our team visited a camp called Atshana (translates to thirsty) and is located right next to the Sowerky cemetery in Deir El Balah. The camp is in bad condition and don’t get aid or support, donate: The Sameer Project team distributed 147 packages with 1.5 kilos of eggplants in each bag. The cost for each bag is $29.25 so the whole distribution cost around $4,300. One meal of eggplants alone for a family costs around $30 and these vegetables are sourced from farms running under big risks. These prices don’t include cooking oil, sauces or spices. A couple of days ago our team found families with their belongings on the side of the street in Deir El Balah. They stopped and asked them what’s wrong. Most of them were women and children. “We’re too tired to set up our tents,” answered the women. So our incredible team set up the tents they had with them and helped them settle in. They set up 20 tents and brought 5 new tents for those with worn out tents. The 5 tents cost $400 each so total $2,000 with 7% commission. The Sameer Project team are here to serve the people, not only with aid distributions but also with their time and effort. God bless our ground team and protect them. Yesterday we managed to secure 250 kilos of vegetables in the South: 96 kilos of eggplants and 150 kilos of molokhye. Support here: . The cost was $20 per kilo for the eggplant and $15 per kilo for the molokhye. These prices include 10% commission so total is $4,170. 33 packages with 1 kilo of eggplants and 1.5 kilos of molokhye were given to the Refaat Alareer camp residents. Additionally, we made 67 packages of molokhye (1 kilo each) and 76 packages of eggplant (1 kilo each) and distributed to random people on the street and tents in Zawayde and Sawarha area, feeding around 70-80 families. The situation is really dire and finding food is highly risky with our team members roaming the markets in the heat and with barely any nutrition. We are providing them with peanut butter bites to increase their calorie intake. So with the drop in donations, the Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine)) x Sameer Project decided to focus our water campaign to the areas in the far North like Jabalia and Beit Lahia, as well as Tuffah and Zaytoun daily. This will encourage the residents of those areas to come back and for those already there to stay. Our water campaign is an integral part of our work at the Sameer Project. From June 2024 till today, not a day has passed without us distributing water. We would like to increase our water distributions even more but for that we need your help. “Yalla na’merha” means “let’s build it”. With limited resources, the Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine)) x Sameer Project team decided to clear out some streets in the North so that those displaced in the South can return. Support: On October 18th, the Sameer Project team went to the Nafaq area in Gaza City and managed to clear out two side roads. A tractor was hired for the heavy lifting and then our team cleaned the streets. The municipality was contacted and permission was granted to do this clean up. The tractor and truck were hired for 5 hours and cost $4,721 (11% commission) and 10 team members were there as well as 23 day workers who were paid $818 cash total (17% commission). We also purchased 15 shovels, 5 large hammers, 5 grabhoes, 10 brooms, 1 wheelbarrow, snacks and other stuff for the team that cost around $2,388. Total costs that day was $7,927. The equipment will be used for future cleanups too! This campaign is not just about clearing streets but it’s also about bringing the community together. Men, women and children came out of their homes and helped our team in the clean up. Your donations allowed us to bring families back to their homes from the South. The children in Gaza Camp in Deir Al Balah were barefoot, some wearing summer clothes, and all were cold. This camp gets minimal support and none of the families had anything to keep them warm for winter. Our The Sameer Project team got to work after taking the sizes of all the children at the camp, organizating a distribution of warm winter jackets, ensuring there was one for each child in need. The children in Gaza Camp in Deir Al Balah were barefoot, some wearing summer clothes, and all were cold. This camp gets minimal support and none of the families had anything to keep them warm for winter. Our The Sameer Project team got to work after taking the sizes of all the children at the camp, organizating a distribution of warm winter jackets, ensuring there was one for each child in need. Some days we find rice and some days we don’t but on the 29th of July and thanks to your support we managed to find some. Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine)) x the Sameer Project team distributed 150 meals to the civil defense team, ambulance team and individual tents in Al Samer neighborhood in Gaza City, support: . Each meal cost $17.85 with 10% commission so total of $2,678. Each meal of rice weighs 800 grams so it’s enough for 2-3 people. With the ongoing imposed famine by the military occupation, a few bites of food, and especially carbs, is very difficult to obtain. We are hoping aid comes into Gaza so that we can return to serving thousands per day. Till then we continue to provide whats available and distributing to hospitals, frontliners and camps. Beit Lahia is in North Gaza, and Tal Al Dahab (hill of gold) is an area near the yellow line where almost no aid reaches. This is exactly why The Sameer Project goes and supports such areas! Donate: On December 17th, the Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine)) x The Sameer Project distributed 135 pairs of shoes, in collaboration with Small Steps Project (Small Steps Project). Total cost was around $1,962, including 9% commission. The Sameer Project will continue to bring aid to Jabalia and Beit Lahia. Unfortunately Shujaiyah has been bombed several times, even outside of the yellow line. Even today several people were bombed and killed in Shujaiyah. The Civil Defense team in Gaza risk their lives with empty stomachs every single day. They are constantly targeted by the military occupation and several fire trucks have been completely destroyed. Support them: When the civil defense team informed us about the trucks, the Sameer Project team immediately responded to fixing a fire truck. The cost was around $4,435 including 10% commission. These trucks save the lives of thousands everyday who are getting bombed every single day.
