Mugabe was trying to act as if and convince the country there was no coup, behaving as if it's business as usual when in fact that was his last formal address to the nation in his ignominous exit at gunpoint. This idea is from the movie THE USUAL SUSPECTS (1995) and is often attributed to Baudelaire from his story “Le Joueur Généreux” [the Generous Gambler] (1864) but the sentiment predates Baudelaire.
