I am not going to lie, I did laugh. Reality is however, much different. T'au certainly loathe close range combat, finding it barbaric, but they do not fear it. Indeed, Battlesuits especially can dish terrible damage with their augmented strenght.

Look up the Way of the Shortsword or the Breacher Teams. The T'au can be as deadly in point-blank ranges as they are in long-range. A fact that Orks and Space Marines painfully figured out. With that said, here is a battlesuit demolishing three marines in close-quarters combat.

On a more serious note, isn't part of the reason why Space Marines use melee is because they also exist to boost morale of their mortal human allies? I'm very sure that your average guardsman would fight harder when seeing a 7 foot tall super soldier stabbing a gun emplacement.

And there's the gigachad farsight using both range and melee prowess.
