The UGC Equity Rules must be revoked by Narendra Modi. Excluding general category from the definition of victims of caste discrimination is akin to excluding Muslims from the definition of victims of Islamic terrorism. Why is the latter unacceptable but the former not. My views:

Schools shape children's future, but sadly, many are still not free from caste discrimination. Dalit, Adivasi, children face daily humiliation, segregation, and denial of opportunities. UGC introduced strict Equity Regulations 2026 for higher education ban on discrimination, Equal Opportunity Centres, swift action on complaints. Why not in schools? Schools urgently need the same strong rules! Schools should be centres of equality, not dens of casteism.

Former Conservative minister Claire Coutinho has called for the government's proposed definition of Islamophobia to be withdrawn. Imagine the reaction if someone proposed withdrawing a definition of antisemitism. Why should it be difficult to ensure that all minority communities are treated fairly and equally, with the same protections, the same dignity, and the same right to live free from prejudice and discrimination?

Muslims are not allowed to be the victims of terrorism because if we were, who would the 'enemies' of the West be. Islam and Muslims have been scapegoated by nefarious actors - even within the Western media narrative - to be seen as the violent ones. Three Muslims were killed in San Diego. And the most powerful headline we'll ever get is 'hate incident'.
