Chamath broke down the $5T software market on TWiST: $4T of it goes to maintenance and services, not the software itself. A financial services client was paying $2M a year to an outside vendor for a process that kept falling behind. We rebuilt it as software with Software Factory and an 8090 engineer accountable for it and maintaining it, and the cost dropped by about $1.5M a year.

But on the whole, it seems that the Jevons paradox—which dictates that as the cost of writing software falls, the amount of software written goes up—is actually playing out. If an XYZ company, which is a product company, was spending, say, $100 million on writing software and can now do it for $70 million, they might need to lay off some people; that is their business priority. But if the amount of software written goes up three to four times, the number of software engineers in the ecosystem will not change… This panic and paranoia about massive job losses is something that I think is, at this stage, unfounded.”

This is just sad. California spends 8 to 10 times more on services for illegal immigrants than it does on veterans services from the General Fund. And now the legislature is trying to mislead the people of California with another Trojan horse ballot title by calling this Measure “Veteran and Affordable Housing Bond.” I voted no today because veterans should be prioritized in our budget. We should not have to pull a bond out during a record revenue year and a record budget. When the state spends over $10 billion on illegal immigrant services, including lawyer fees and medical healthcare, but only about $500 million on our veterans, we have a problem. Is it too hard to ask that we make sure every single veteran is off the street before providing services to individuals from other countries? Is it too much to ask that our veterans who fought for this country are provided more services and resources than individuals from other countries? Never let the state tell you we do not have enough money. What they really mean is that they just do not have enough money for you. Share, repost, vote, and save California.

We could cut because if your products are so great and healthy for everybody. Why don't you stand on your own two feet, Coca Cola? Why don't you just operate without taxpayer money if you're so great? And the cherry on top is how our legislators have figured out they can play this little game and go back to their home voters and tell them how evil the farmers and ranchers are because of the farm bill and the subsidies.
